C. versicolor arrival enclosure dilemma - Input needed

Hi folks! I'm quite new to the hobby...I have jumping spiders and my other T is a B. emilia sling, who is doing quite well. I picked up a C. versicolor sling today from a local vendor (who I also got the B. emilia from), and I'm concerned about it's enclosure for the moment.

I ordered an arboreal spiderling enclosure <edit> (2"x 4" AMAC), but it was delayed in shipping and with the USPS delays, I'm concerned that it won't be here until early next week. My issue with the one it came in is, after reading a million things here on the board about cross ventilation, this vial has none. The plastic is very brittle, and I don't want to try to put holes in it, esp. with the sling inside.

I'm not sure if I should leave it in there until I receive the one <edit> or...what. The only nearly suitable thing I have on hand that's tall enough is a 16 oz deli cup. I have substrate, fake plants, etc. I just want to do what's best for the little one, and lessen the risk of it not thriving. Open to any and all suggestions. Thank you! I have provided pics of the vial and the only ventilation it has.

Id personally get it out of that vial as soon as possible, and into something different, like that 16oz deli cup that way you can dramatically increase the ventilation, they can be housed in that sized delicup straight away, usually. Always better safe than sorry with Aviculariinae. You can always also travel to your local walmart or dollar store to pick up something else, or look to see if theres a container store near you to pick up an Amac box.

That's my instinct. The closest Container Store is 3 hours away. I *may* have the Amac by Saturday, but I don't want to count on it.

Yeah that’s what I would do and not wait those little vials don’t really have any airflow.

I'm on it! Sitting here putting holes in a 16 oz deli with a pushpin, lol. Second question, I have both the regular deli lids, but I also have the fabric vented lids, <edit>. Would the vented ones provide too much ventilation?

I agree with @Smotzer. The 16oz deli cup will be fine once properly ventilated. I wouldn't use the fabric lid though. Poke a bunch of holes in the plastic lid. Be careful when opening the plastic lid as you don't want to remove the whole thing and have the sling bolt out. Carefully lift just one side of the plastic lid when feeding.

Momo has been rehoused! What a little, energetic escape artist! No bolting, just a casual crawling out and all over the place. All good. Smellerbee, my B. emilia is sooo chill in comparison. IMG_4423.jpg IMG_4424.jpg Thanks all!

Applause for you @PhidNC for doing research and posting about the issue here.
That original vial was a death trap, and your new enclosure is great!
You've done the right thing 👍

Aw, thanks! I read obsessively on here, watched a ton of videos, before I got any T's and as soon as I got Momo today, my gut told me not to wait. Thank you to everyone for the assistance! I think Momo is happier already...room to stretch, air to breathe. Yay!

Looks good but provide a proper water dish (that orange bottle cap, for example). :)

That 16oz will work fine, I house arboreal slings in 32oz delis right off the bat and they work fine (even for like 1cm slings). Aviculariinae are easy to feed once they make their web tubes.

Hey y'all, Momo is doing well in the 16 oz...ate a mealworm yesterday, seems to be adjusting well. I did get the new enclosure today, and I'm going to set it up regardless (mostly bc I want to use my hot glue gun and a soldering iron, lol)...however, I think I'm just going to let him stay put for now, bc 1) seems content in the 16 oz and 2) I feel like this mesh is too open? I'm just worried about legs getting caught in it. Am I overthinking it? It's a 4" tall AMAC, for scale. IMG_4430.jpg
