Looks like they said in the article that they are in fact the worst. Phewy thanks for posting this
No problem 🙂

All I know is I got just a few urticating setae or UrS on the back of my hand from my first tarantulas a Tliltocatl albopilosus and it sucked. Three days of maddening itching and a big hive it was horrid. I can't imagine getting even just one UrS from a stirmi on me.

Pick your gloves wisely those UrS can penetrate surgeon or latex gloves they must be thicker.

Oh man! I’m reading some Reddit posts about the hairs and oof. Even accidents, like this guy had a fan on and threw the hairs around. Rather not have a chance to go blind. I was going to use my regular latex gloves so thanks for letting me know!

Awareness and being prepared plays in whenever opening a new world tarantula's enclosure that possesses UrS. They also lay down UrS on the substrate.

This is how I got it. No glove and messing with the lid with the back side of my hand semi-in the enclosure. I stirred some UrS up that made contact with my hand. That's when I first started and was not thinking about that when messing with the lid. I paid for it lol

More Updates on my stirmi journey 01/14——since have changed my enclosure like mentioned before and put in a drainage layer as well. I believe I’ve gotten to a point of balancing the moisture quite well. Fruit flies and mold has finally gone away. Changed their diet from cut up worms to tiny crickets. They are savage! Journey still continues but I believe I’m in the right direction. Research will always continue

Can’t wait for the next molt!
