Today I went bug hunting with my 4yo and we found a few interesting things. Most of all a beetle I haven't seen before. About 2-3cm and shinny blue golden colour (doesn't really show up on my phone camera).
South Wales UK.

Raft spider, and a weevil by the looks of it. Cool finds

I'm almost certain the first one is a wolf spider, and the second one is a granulated ground beetle Carabus granulatus.
The spider is a Trochosa species (ruricola/terricola). And I think you're right about the beetle.

I have always said my kids are going to respect nature, so I am trying my best to make sure they do, even if they are not interested, I want them to respect it.

Very much agree! Always wonderful seeing parents educated their children on the natural world and to appreciate its beauty not fear it!
