Yeah I think most lovers of inverts agree, if it occurs in nature fine.

However there has been a fantasy thread on this , (kidD)ref.

I'm pretty sure KidD isn't a cannibalistic necrophiliac...but I've been wrong before.

In all honesty though, I agree that bug fights are symbolic of disrespect of our beloved bugs. (And I assume most people on the board understand this.)

I think it's kinda gay when people use "gay" not only as a pejorative term, but for something that has nothing to do with homosexuality at all.

Unless you think it's happy when people put innocent ts with scorpions, but somehow I don't think that's what you meant. ;P

Anyway, on topic: We've had a bunch of threads about bugfights...I haven't watched them, I think that sort of thing is dumb whether it's imaginary or not. It's also completely unnecessary, whether it's imaginary or not. I don't think it's a surefire sign of mental illness or criminal acts, though, but I do think it's a sure sign that someone's kind of a jerk.

Once again, people in their respective hobbies take these affairs far too seriously.

Animals are not "innocent"; they cannot become guilty, either, as they run off of instinct and not some moral code that can be tainted by human interaction.

And they certainly do not suffer; at least, they do not experience anything that is comparable to the psychosomatic suffering of humans. You might as well decry those who trim their plant's leaves to stimulate growth as butchers.

These are animals that live and die gruesome deaths in their natural habitats after lower qualities of living. You might be able to make this case for cows, chickens, and other food animals, but insects and spiders? As long as these people are not kidnapping YOUR Ts, you should not be concerned and should stop being so melodramatically sentimental.

I would have to disagree with you there. I think its really only gay if they are of the same gender. Unless thats what you meant? Either way, though, I dont see what homosexual behavior in tarantulas and scorpions has to do with the bugfights videos.

IMO, the videos are amusing, but not very nice. I would rather see those bugs individually in awesome enclosures than shoved together in a plastic box.

"Talk[ing] about it" is irrelevant to this discussion; if anything, that job was inclined to give you a bias on this subject or indicate a bias that was already present. Give me a logical refutation of my points instead of throwing out your "credentials".

The only reason to consider the welfare of simple nervous systems-- tarantulas and insects-- is for the repercussions they have on people; the point was mentioned in this thread already. It is silly to consider the welfare of a T for the T's sake.
