Some breeding during the week-end...

Centruroides barbudensis


Parabuthus mossambicensis


Uroplectes vittatus


Hottentotta franzwerneri


...and as soon the following male Parabuthus villosus want to molt, a nice female (below) is waiting for him !

Does the species with the long metasoma employ the sexual sting, if not, any ideas how it came about. That last Parabuthus is very hairy.

its amazing how much alike the uroplectus vittatus and the centruroides vittatus are. is it safe to say that uroplectus is the centruroides of africa?

Hi Mark,
No the male didn't sting the female this time, but yes I suppose sexual sting behaviour is the main reason of Centruroides' (and other genus) male elongated metasoma, it is a good means of defense for males during mating.
Yep Parabuthus villosus is one of the most hairy scorpions (and the biggest Buthid in the world, adult females are really impressive).

How many cm are the the C. barbudensis and the U. vittatus? You got some nice looking breeding pairs. Hopefully you end up with many large broods.:clap:

About 5-6cm for female C.barbudensis, 4-5cm for U.vittatus.
