Hi everyone, I know many of you have smithi, so let's post some photos! Anything from 3in to 7in. If you have progressive growth photos then that's extra cool.

My current smithi as well as a young smithi growing up from 1.5in to around 3in.

Please contribute if you can.

If you have comparison photos of smithi and harmorii at these sizes, that would be extra awesome.

My last harmorii 4.5in

Large AF b. smithi (1st pic is pre-most recent molt, 2nd shortly after molting, others are post molt):

Smaller b. hamorii female for comparison:

From what I'm seeing, the colors on the smithi tend to pop way more than hamorii.

But both are great :) Love my AF hamorii.

What I'm seeing is the Smithi has completely coloured knees, so at the various stages it looks to be, reds and oranges, to nearly white. Whereas the Hamorii seems to have vibrant red in the centre of the knee to a white outline and completely loosing colour at the edge's of the knee.

If could also just be the photos.

Asking me? I have absolutely no idea at all. I honestly didn't even know it was called something before Smithi never mind before that. I am now super interested in what it is though lol. We are the same age too, how do I not know this?

Teotihuacan
You need to send me a voice note of how to pronounce this, I don't think Google has it correct lol

Not a fan of B smithis nor most Brachypelmas. Don’t eat often enough and not enough attitude for me

Bohemi is my favourite one, I have to admit emilia is pretty too

I've only ever had a Hamorii, it matured male though, I have a pic of it from when I got it as unsexed juvenile though.

Edit;

Hopefully everyone knows I meant Bohemi here lol just read this again.

Could be a trick question, but since I like you so much, I'll answer. Before it was called annitha, it was called a smithi. Fair enough?

I'm going with @Cmac2111 smithi are bottomless pits, constantly wanting to eat. No food item lives with these. I don't trust the smithi either, kinda like I don't trust the auratum or the vagans.

Bohemi have the most attitude, bohemi, emilia or the buamagarteni are the prettiest ones

I prefer Smithi over Harmorii. Colour is more striking on the smithi (harmori is the perfect calm stunning T). Auratum is pretty and docile too.

I think what you have is indeed a smithi. So there is that. I know It could be a year before it molts again, just keep us all posted. That last photo of the male is definitely a smithi! Lol, your female just needs that one extra molt and I think the colors will start popping more...that orange everywhere, and more definitive features.

Sometimes its hard to tell when they are younger, especially looking at photos, things get confusing real fast.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond.

Sorry bud I meant Bohemi in response to Bohemi being you're favourite of the Brachys, since I'm not a Brachypelma/Tliltocatl guy it gets confusing lol. Pic I posted is of said Bohemi.

Haha I honestly don't know if I'm having a blonde moment here but this is really confusing me now.

He is named after Andrew Smith King of all things Brachypelma 😁.
Although now everytime I look at him he will remind me of you n your Misses 😂.

Just basic stuff that's already out there.

One day, like a hundred years ago, a guy named Smith was walking in Mexico and came across a tarantula, he named it smithi. His specimen sat in a jar until not long ago, when scientists determined what was in the jar, was actually the same T described in a 1996-97 T finding. They called that T an annitha. When scientists realize this, annitha was no longer a name, it went back to the name it was in the first place.

Now, I dont know this harmorii dude, but apparently it took this long to figure out all the (at the time smithi) was not the same species as described a hundred years ago... see how easy it is to get them confused/sight alone. We are still going over this. So now that staple tarantula is called harmorii. Because it never was a real smithi in the first place.

Thank you cold 😊.
She was actually named after the godess not the city but impressed you knew most don't 😉

I have problems pronouncing it myself that's why she gets Teo 😂

Little bit of info on where her name came from the spider godess 😉

Check out this thread! I mean, just look at that beauty! I guess @Charliemum you can see the 'A' I always talk about and why I concern myself with critical details such as carapace, knees/bands around legs, and color, and attitude and size. Not to mention the difference in behavior between harmorii and smithi.

Take two:

I got it, found the photos, well, at least some of them.

This is the muffin in the stuffing! Folks.
