+1, doesn't look red enough to be cedar but maybe pine or balsa- both of which are pretty soft and would probably absorb moisture before containing it.

Could treat it, but not sure how the treatment would affect the spider contained...

line it with glass/plexiglass/some other harmless, clear material?

I have already used it for a while (7 months) with a 6 cm leg span G.rosea and everything was OK.

I had covered the inside part with hard but thin plastic and i used a cover made off a perforated trasparent piece of thicker plastic that I made slide between the box sockets. A spile served to lock it to avoid escapes.

DRY species are going to be necessary w/o treating it


i would be slightly concerned about what kind of chemicals were used in the production the box itself... but i guess if it doesn't smell strongly then it might be ok


cool idea! i really like nonstandard and recycled containers :D
