I thought I'd share this article I found when doing some class work in natural science. It explains that tarantulas that have a blue hue are caused by nanostructures in the tarantulas exoskeleton opposed to pigment.

I shared this article when it first hit the news. Always good to repost this one though.

Also, this also applies to most blue animals, very few actually produce blue pigments. Peacocks, butterflies are good examples of animals using nanostructures.
