We're in the middle of a series of ice storms here. I scrapped a quarter inch build up of ice off of my car this morning. Trees are down all over from the wind and weight of the ice on them and I'm just hoping that the power lines don't go down.

Ah got it. I was thinking the lines buried in snow and not buried to help prevent things from happening to them.

Well if you have a gas stove, you can always turn the oven on to keep it warn until the electric kicked back on.

37 and rainging here. I wish it would snow or freeze or do something crappy. Couple weeks ago we were in the single digits for a week but no rain to make it fun.

Well CRAP!!!

I'm in the Tulsa area as well, and really hoping that we do NOT have a repeat of the ice storm we had two years ago- it was bad, power was out over most of the city, and some areas were out for nearly two weeks.

It never occurred to me that i should make emergency preparations for my 'other' pets in case of a power outage. With three Ts, a millipede and a tortoise, being without heat could cause fatalities!

AvicMan, i like your idea of using a gas stove for heat, and luckily i have one. Hope i don't have to use it!

That's a good question. Unfortunately, Ts aren't like dogs, where you can just snuggle up with them under a blanket.

If you have a gas hookup to your house, and just don't use it, i've heard of space heaters that will hook to your gas line and do a great job of providing warmth.

If you have NO gas, and no generator...well, i guess that just leaves battery-powered equipment, unless i'm overlooking some other power source? Honestly i've never seen a battery operated space heater, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist.

If you have a small collection, making arrangements with friends or family to 'pet sit' if they still have power might not be a bad idea.

those would be good ideas, except that, the blizzard is going on right now, so if we get snowed in, and the power goes out, well.... :(

we DO have a gas hookup since I think our fireplace is gas. I'm not really sure, we haven't used it in three or four years since our basement flooded.

I hope your power stays on as well. I don't want anybody to lose any animals in this storm. I am Ohio, so I have yet to get anything from this storm you guys out west are dealing with. I also recommend sleeping it the same room as the spiders if you do end up using the stove. Wouldn't want to go in the other direction and roast them either. This way, when it starts getting to hot from the stove (if it does), you will feel the heat and know to turn it down or off.

Maybe run a tub full of hot water and use that as a source of heat for your T's. I am sure you can think of ways to work with the hot water, like maybe fill bottles and put them in or around the cages. I am not sure if this would work, but it is a idea.

Another idea is you could pack them into something that will keep them warm, like insulated boxed or blankets. Do you have a cooler? But a few hot water bottles in there along with your T's. Maybe if not cooler, take a box, wrap a few blankets around it and put your T's and hot water bottles in that box and wrap it with the blankets good.

Hey guys were having the same bad bad weather here in missouri. Me and a couple of buddies of mine were talking and thought if we had to we could use the 18 hour heat packs to try and give the ts some heat. Whats your guys opinion.

Thanks,
Matt

I was thinking about the heat packs while reading some other posts. I think that if you have some, they'd be great to use while the power is out if you have no other source of warmth!

AvicMan, if i end up having to use the stove for heat, you bet i'm gonna be camping out on the floor too! You have some good ideas there with the water bottles and cooler. :D
