I collected these last weekend.

This is a tiny juvenile. Note how much more brightly colored they are when young.

Thanx, I couldn't believe all the widows I found in such a short period of time. They were under nearly every rock.

Nice widows. :)
Are you going to keep them or take them back to wild?

Actually, I am giving some of them away. I will keep a couple for myself. There seems to be an endless supply here. One has already made an egg sac.
I also have a different Widow than what is in the pics. It is called the Northern Widow. I can't remember the scientific name but it has a broken hourglass. I'll try to get a pic of it soon.

Brown widow is L. geometricus. Also, L. mactans have the more defined hour glass (taller and skinnier), while L. herperus have slightly more blurry (shorter and wider). There are quite a few black widow spp. Red widows are L. bishopi which I used to own a few of, which I am getting a tattoo of as well.

I currently have a bunch of escaped L. geometricus around my room. I don't bother them, they don't bother me.

Here's a lLINK to my widows pics.

i need to snag the widow that is on the side of my place one of these days. she's finally starting to get darker. she was almost all tan when i first noticed her.

when i lived at my old house, widows were everywhere. i found over 40 of them while looking for them in the backyard one night.

i've kept 3 of them so far and they're definately interesting.

I know nothing about widows and was wondering about a red widow. I've heard that they're one of the most poisonous of the widows. Again, unless it's a T I don't know much about it.

Yea, they are one of the more venomous widows. Red Widows are absolutely gorgeous. What else did you want to know?
