Gunna be 21 on May 10th. The folks have decided to get me a tarantula, instead of beer. (Only kidding). What would you all recommend them get? :D

Here's a few questions to help (hopefully):

1: Do you have a tarantula budget? Because some species are rather pricey.

2: What's your experience or comfort level? Because some species can be
fast, aggressive, humidity sensitive, temperature sensitive.

3: How much space do you have to work with? Because some species can
get to decent size and housing them could be space consuming.

There are probably a few others that I missed but, I'm sure it will get mentioned.

Just remember that getting a new tarantula can be a tough decision. So good luck on whatever species you choose.

Hes fairly experienced, he has species like C.crawshayi and Megaphobema spp.

He's not a beginner like other people that start these kinds of threads.

Sorry Austin for answering part of your question, couldn't resist.

Haha thanks a lot Novak. Yeah Stone, I have been doing the T thing for around 10 years. In the past I have had blondi's, robustums, OBT, almost every Poec you can think of, cept subfusca, metallica, miranda, and tigg. But ya never know. :D I am very experienced in this hobby, well atleast I think I am. I have bred several different species and they have been successful on my part. I'm in the middle of a crawshayi breeding porject right now, along with P formosa, A. avicularia, A. hentzi, Cyriopagopus "blue", Cyrio. Schei. and more to come.

I like whatever species I see. If I see one, I will most likely aquire ir for my collection. I'm a go-get-er ;) for tarantulas, pet store rescuer, like most everyone on this site.

So whatever you all are thinking of, throw it out there for me! :) I'm excited to see everyones responses.

Hey,

Ever been bitten by any Poecilotheria yet?

I like the Poecilotheria very much except I have 5 year old son who gets into everything. I heard by many the bite is very nasty. A pet shop employee in Colorado was bitten and went to the hospital. I heard he said the venom was strong that it made it difficult to breath and he had a lot of pain.

If you have been bitten with a full slug of Poecilotheria venom how bad was it?

Thanks :)

I've narrowed it down to this
C. cyaneopubescens
E. cyanognathus
H. costale
M. velvetosoma
P. metallica
S. calceatum
T. apophysis
T. purpureus
or X. immanis

Need to shorten it up a lil though...... :wall:

P.S. no I have never been bitten by a Poec, but I am sure there are reviews about the after math somewhere here, I'm just too lazy to find um.. :)

Live animals are available year-round. I would suggest you ask that they pay for you to attend the ultimate gathering of arachnid enthusiasts - ArachnoCon 2007. ;) Cheers, MJ
