I use paper towels for some of the reasons people mentioned (like the ink and stuff getting wet and on the snake). Plus its easy and cheap still.

As for the biting thing, Ive still never had that issue, but also with my female boa, i have her used to whenever I reach in to take her out, first I reach in with a snake hook and gently touch her back/close to her head (not on her head though). Then I take her out, just so she knows its not feeding time by any stretch.

I use cypress mulch, its cheap, holds water well, and and looks natural. ~ Rex

Just the thread I was looking for!

I currently have 2 Black Rat Snakes... they are on Zilla Fir and Sphagnum Moss Mix. I like the look of the tank... but worry about the dust and such. I am wanting to go with the Aspen, but what do I get? The Zoomed stuff that is just for snakes or can I just get the stuff from the small pet section at Wal-Mart? Is there a difference in the 2?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
I buy my aspen at Walmart.
