My girlfriend found this late at night in Connecticut. Never even knew we had these here to be honest. Pretty pumped on it and I think it's the best find yet for us. Xyloryctes jamaicensis.

Wow! That's a cool looking beetle! The coolest beetle I ever found was a Derobrachus hovorei. 😃

That is so cool. Its really fun to discover the “Micro” fauna that lives around us.

My kids did entomology through 4-H, years ago. We took bug collecting trips around the state...absolutely loved it.

Great family fun. 10/10, would love to do it again. Can’t wait till the grandkids are old enough to join 4-H and start doing the projects.

Look like patent leather shoes. I find the textures of some microfauna remarkable!

I'm from Michigan and I moved to Florida recently. I've found a couple Ox Beetles I guess they're called down here I thought was that. But they're not. Cool bugs though.

Yes I did but they are not in my possession as I retired from the hobby.

You can't just "retire" from the hobby! You can temporarily set aside collecting, but soon the thoughts will return to you, beetles appearing in the night, centipedes trundling across the carpet in the morning, a spider here and a spider there, till at last, sometime later (the strongest can make it for years), the last ounce of willpower you have is used up, and you return once again from the regular shopping trip with something unexpected...

Beware!

Thanks,
