Wow, it's been awhile for me. No longer a single gal with hundreds of tarantulas. LOL
Lately I have been missing my eight legged friends. I thought I might be able to convince my husband into letting me keep one tarantula in the house. Maybe a nice display tarantula in our living room.

Need some suggestions!

C. cyaneopubescens web a lot. P. metallica like to hide. :}

I like the Brachys...emilia, boehmei, smithi, or auratum.

H. maculata are nice, so are P. irminia and S. calceatum.

What about P. ornata or rufilata. Very large good lookers and do not mind to
stay out of hiding. X.immanis would be a great choise as well.

Smok.

GBB. Cool looks, and home-made surroundings to match.

P. regalis is another good looking Pokie. Nice big female (just how I like 'em).

A. geniculata or L. parahybana

Both get pretty big and grow fast. Once they reach a big enough size, they start to become active and they like to wander.

Almost all of the above is pretty much visible, except that indeed Pokies will litteraly disapeare for weeks when in pre/post molt, ornata and rufilata being less secretive in my experience. GBB does web a lot, but the animal is always out. If you don't mind some web triming, you can have a versicolor make a platform instead of a tunnel, then it is quite a sight when viewed from above.

To add to the list, I have to point toward G aureostriata and Psalmopeus cambridgei. Those + geniculata and X intermedia. All of mine never, ever hide, even when I supply sheltering material.

I say S calceatum or maybe an adult ruffilata. My ruffilata sling is really seclusive, but I've heard as they grow older they are out and about more. But I'm not sure how ok ur husband is with the more potent old worlders around. So I'm thinking I'd have to agree with xhexdx, a brachy is the way to go. Not to mention it would probably help ur husband into the hobby being able to see, and maybe touch some T's. Thats how my wife got me hooked ;)

A geniculata. Great display tarantula. That would be my choice.

If you are in to a bit more color, B smithi. Stick with the classic.

IMO, any pokie is good, as well as S cal.'s and P. Irminias.

Geniculata all the way. As far as not as colorful as a B. Smithi, I would have to disagree. Plus for a display species they are perfect up to 8", amazing looking, an incredible feeding responce, and always out in the open and doing something. Since I got mine I cant think of a better display. The downside is the temperment. If your is settling in the tarantula deal, a Smithi may be a much better option. Personally I find them boring, pretty though

S. Calceatum, are you guys serious? They guy has to ease into these magical creatures, not exploit his phobia. There fast, mean, and really not good looking imo anyway. That is the last thing I would suggest. Please debate with my your take on it though.

LP.

Its always out in the open, doesn't web a lot, eats a ton (because come on, what good is a display tarantula that doesn't perform for your friends?) and it gets huge, so people will freak out when they see it, and freak out even more when you hold it without hesitating. My favorite display, hands down, and I've got a pokie and GBB.
