Nice i do like those ones so since ya'll say its hardy and a good beginner species perhaps i will start there :)

So moving on, whats the ideal enclosure/hide/decoration/water dish/substrate etc for a hadrunus arizonensis (desert hairy) scorpion lol???
Also, i assune crickets and super worms are a fine dinner same as T's correct?
Food anything quick roaches crickets ect they will sit at the mouth of their burrows waiting for food to walk by grab. It and drag it down;). A good tank would be a five gallon about half filled with a mixture
Of either excavator clay and sand or paver base and sand wet and packed into the cage and alowed to dry..water bowl Maybe once a month I will mist just a bit near the burrow but that's it nice and simple

Where does one get those types of substrate?

+1 on the clay
You can find it at chain retail stores and they should have it at exotic pet stores, or just order online.

I've read that h. arizonensis are notorious for molting trouble in their early instars. That's why some people make a false bottomed portion for them.

The paver base and sand you can get at any hardware store the paver base it basically small rock clay and sand and cut it with sand she packed down it makes a great burrowing substrate and is cheaper then the Exo terra burrowing clay. Deep substrate is keep as was posted about since they can have molting issues I have had no issues with mine and most including myself attribute it to deep sub they can burrow in and regulate humidity

I forgot about that. You can get a 50lb bag of play sand for $5. You just have to rinse it out, over and over and over and over over again (well at least for fish, scorpions don't have filters and are way hardier).

Here's a post I wrote about their care some time ago.

You can give them hides, but they're obligate burrowers which means they prefer to make a burrow themselves rather than a pre-provided hide. Crickets and super worms would be fine. I fed mine roaches though. ;)

Excellent and again, thanks all

I always prefer to do my reserach before grabbing a new animal BUT you never know what you will find at shows and when opportunity presents ya gotta jump haha.

May i ask, what all species of scorpion do well with regular substrate like peat/top soil (i already have lots if that due to keeping T's lol)

Emperors and Asian forests will do well with peat or top soil. Some of your more arid loving ones will do ok on dry peat or my personal favorite peat mixed with sand and be perfectly fine.

With regards to clay, I bought some bentonite from a local producer. Was dirt cheap for an amount I will probably never use up. I have been testing it with play sand and so far it seems a 4% mix of bentonite clay is sufficient. It gets to hard if I mix in a higher concentration.

Has anyone else tried using bentonite clay?

Dry peat and sand will not work for a H. arizonensis. Every burrow will collapse if it could even make one.

I have heard about this haven't tried it yet since I can make 100lbs of my mix for $14 ;)

How much clay do you use?
None I use plain old play sand and what's called paver mix from lowes. It's like a fine gravel sand and has some clay in it. Mix it 1 part pacer base to 2 parts sand wet it down and pack it in the cage and let dry. Works awesome and looks natural cause the little stones and whatnot I moved this cage from upstairs to downstairs and the burrow diddnt mive an inch once it dries I had to chip a bit at to to remove my female from her burrow. Nothing crazy but just hard enough and they can burrow perfect a bag of play sand is like $5 and a bag of paver base is like 7 or 8 I have since added double the substrate on top of him and it diddnt collapse I just wanted more room for him to dig

Looks good, will see if our local building/hardware stores have that, sure they should. I will also keep experimenting with the Bentonite since I have 88 lbs of the stuff. (Smallest amount they were selling but was still super cheap)
