Beetle ID... anybody!

Ground beetles of some kind I think. I used to find body parts all the time when I was a kid. I don't see many live ones but found two yesterday.

They're bess beetles with daddy problems

They are predatory and I've heard they don't take too kindly to being captured.

yup, that's what they are,i have afew, awesome predators and quite long lived also:clap: i used to find them all over too, but now i don't see many.

Nice one I used to give them random things when I was little to see if they'd break it. Of course they'd rip up things when I provoked them too much

yeah and the larger ones can give ya a good pinch i got some ssp.that are 1" alittle bigger,then i have one that's 2"(larger ssp.from fla.) that one will bite ya

I agree with Cheshire, definitely a Pasimachus... as for species... Pasimachus depressus... i think....

Yea did some googleing think it is a Pasimachus depressus. Very nice a bit like a british violet ground beetle.
