Conclusion of Bat Story
I never did get a human being on the phone from a rehab center. The Maryland Wildlife folks only gave me more rehab numbers and weren't very much help.
For two days the bat hid underneath my trash can (the can has wheels and had enough room for him/her to hide). On the second day I noticed it was hanging upside down from one of the wheels. I was tossing dead cicadas under the can (not getting to close) whenever I walked by. Today I came out to check on the bat and it was gone. No dead cicadas either, so maybe I did a decent job feeding it. My neighbor said that his dog was barking at something for a long while and he showed up just in time to see something take off from my yard (his dog cannot get into my yard BTW).
Also, I found an empty ransaked birds nest lying next to my deck. I don't think that species of bat eats anything other than insects, but who knows. I hope the bat is doing well and eating some of these damned cicadas.
