For a first OW, the Pterinochilus murinus would have to be the top pick. Like a rosie they are nearly indestructible and will breed and produce sacs at the drop of a hat and the bright orange color is a standout and at $4 a 5 pack is perfect. The Heteroscodra maculata would have to rank #2, the white and dark gray contrast of an adult is absolutely stunning. Both are easy to keep and the H mac has on occasion been known to be fairly calm T for an OW. Fear of OW T's is way over rated in my book, any T can bite or throw a threat display just check a psycho rosie.

Does anyone know how much a G. Pulchra costs?
They're in such high demand that it is really hard to find one. Off the top of my head I don't even know if anyone has slings for sale today. There are juveniles and adults though. Unsexed three inchers go for $150+.

I don't fear OW tarantulas, I just want a spider I can hold and unfortunatley I don't think OW T's fit that definition.

I hate to repeat myself, but... just get the one that you like and do not buy one just because other people voted for it. It's gonna be your spider after all, not anyone else's.

Actually you can handle any T. I handle my C. schioedtei. I also know people who handle P. murinus's. Both T's have a bad reputation but handling is still very possible.

I agree. I never quite understood the "which one" polls anyway.

Thank you Eraisuithon. I will get what T i want. I'm merely doing this because I'm interested in what spiders others like.

If you want to hold it, and not pay a lot, the aureostriata is the way to go...
but why all the posts?

Yeah, I'm already looking around for a Golden Knee at the local dealers. I don't want to buy one over the internet becuase of my distrust of the United States Postal Service...

I voted A. seemani, cause they are beautiful, docile, and uber cheap. Definately one of my fav Ts. If not that L parabyhana.

But then again there is an adult female G auestriata in the classifieds...

I voted G. pulchra.

If you get a sling now, it may be a juvi in 5 years. They grow that slow.

Expensive and tough to find.

second - G. aureostriata

I imagine that I'm going to get a G. Aureostriata even if the G. Pulchra "wins" the "contest"
