Op, I had a 1/2" B. albiceps go 177 days fasting before finally molting...it will happen when it happens....some individuals just take their sweet time with growth.
I know, I’m just being impatient. I just can’t wait! Thanks for your response, it’s a relief to know it’s normal behaviour she’s displaying.

Hey guys,

Just a quick update. I managed to catch a glimpse of my beautiful hamorii and there has been a significant change in her appearance. I’m hoping a moult is imminent. I have attached two photos, the photo with the black spot is from today and the second is from 9 days ago!

All thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Thank you very much

Hi guys,

I know this question is an age old staple on here, but I’m worrying, so I’m hoping someone can put my mind at ease, a little.

I’ve a B hamorii sling 1cm that has been in premolt literally six weeks which is all the time I’ve owned it so it could have possibly been longer. At first, it literally nibbled on a few dead cricket pieces but never really ate like the other slings, but now food is completely untouched or so it seems.
I say this because before the cricket would have been moved to a different area in the enclosure or webbed up. However over the last couple weeks feeding, the crickets are always left exactly where I placed them and no webbing, as though it’s oblivious to the crickets presence.

The sling has also been nestled nicely under a leaf for the last couple of weeks, in a little pit it’s dug. I’m assuming this is because molt is imminent (I’m practically answering my own concerns, I know!)

The issue I have is, she looks as though she’s going to pop, like her abdomen is so big compared to her carapace, she barely looks able to carry her big bottom around. I’m trying not to disturb her other than topping up moister when needed but I’m worried she isn’t happy with something and is trying to delay it, but then again all seems fine with the enclosure, temp/humidity/sizing. I’m prob just being paranoid. I would attach a pic but she’s under her leaf and I don’t want to bother her. I have had a sneak peak before and I thought she looked so cosy that’s where I’d make a home if I was a baby spider. I know it’s tempting to dig her out but I know she knows what she’s doing and I have no intention of intervening.

I’m just concerned in a spider mother way, that maybe I’m missing something, being new to the hobby.

Anyway, any thoughts and opinions are always welcome.

Thanks
Nicola

Aww thank you! Yes she did drag it out a bit longer - but yesterday she came out lay on her leaf and just got on with it! I do feel better now, she’s my first molt! The only concern I have is she has the molt still stuck to her abdomen and she’s dragging it around with her. Im not sure if it’s just snagged on her hair or what, I’m going to wait to see if she can unattach it herself as she hardens up. If she doesn’t, with her only being tiny is there anything you can suggest at all to help?

Thank you
Nicola

P.s That’s great about your Geniculata, do you have a pics? Would love to see one. ☺

Just an update and looking for advice again as usual lol.

My hamorii didn’t completely shed her molt as mentioned previously and she was dragging it around for a few days. Now the bulk of the molt has snapped off but she still has a large piece stuck to the most part of her abdomen. She seems lively enough but hasn’t ate yet - is it likely this piece of molt will be causing her issues? or will it just shed off during the next molt?

Im sure I read somewhere once that a problem during molting can lead to another difficult molt, is this true oram I making that up?

If anybody could kindly advise on this, I’d be truly grateful. Thank you

It may come off by itself but you can take a small, very soft (this is important!) artist's brush, wet it (really wet!) and use it to wet the stuck piece of molt. Wait maybe 10 min, then use the same wet brush to brush the piece of molt off. Works for me.

Thank you for the advice, I did think about doing just that but not the wet part! I wanted to check with you guys before I tried anything as this is new to me. If I’m unable to remove it, is it likely to affect the sling at all?

Thank you
