I am more of a python fan. And yes, herps are quite addictive. I find T's to be more addictive though, as they don't require nearly as complicated setups. (I don't have to fuss with extra heating, and specialized humidty requirments for most of them, plus I'm not stripping down the cages and scrubbing them like mad once a month).
Snakes are much easier to take care of then lizards though.
You might want to keep in mind that the ball may drive you nuts when it goes off feed in the wintertime as it goes up to breeding age. Ball pythons are about as cute and as calm as snakes go, species wise. You may get the snappy individual every now and than..and make sure it's captive bred.
