I got a MF avic m6 today that is the largest avic I’ve ever seen. It’s well over 6” I think. Gonna try to get a good measurement later. I lucked out and got a MM today as well so hopefully I’ll have some big babies down the road. What’s the biggest avicularia or some of the biggest you’ve seen?

Enclosure here is a 8x8x12 exoterra

Biggest avic I've ever seen in person was a 6.5'' A. avic M2 (A. braunshenseni) which was mislabeled as an A. avic for $30. It was female and offered to me, but I said no to it. My rule for buying females is that a male must be locatable if I'm buying it, other wise, it's not really worth getting one. It did have the most beautiful red dense setae on leg IV, I might get it if it's still there in the future.

Until I see a ruler right with the legs of an Avic, I can't believe it. I read a forum post in the UK with a woman claiming to have 8" sp Kwitara River, never saw pic. I have never seen an Avic over 6", doesn't mean it does not happen. I'd be psyched if they reached the size of P rufi's!

Are you referring to sp. amazonica? IF so, it is classified as A. variegata

I think the biggest one I've ever seen was an adult female A. avicularia M6 that was slightly over 6in.

Ok I realize this basically shows 5” but you can see she’s not stretched all the way out and ill try to get a better picture later

A little better but she’s still not all the way stretched. I think she’s right around 6”
Thanks! Nice size!

Exo’s do not count. That’s like measuring Snake’shed skin😉
Lol if she pulls through the post molt I’ll get some good pics. She’s old so idk if she’s gonna make it through the next couple weeks to a meal.

Molts are usually closest I get to measuring a t unless it goes into stretching mode. So say a molt is 7” and the t got bigger and in that case the molt is smaller than the t. At 7.5”…
How much would you subtract from a molt to make it realistic?

I thought DLS varies quite a bit due to posture and that's why the Europeans do carapace (body length) measurements?
