Hello All you 8 Legged Lovers out there! I currently have 2 rose hairs and I am in the market for a new spider. I'm very new to the hobby (about 1.5 months), but I am hooked!

I am currently thinking about an Avicularia and was wondering about the Geroldi. Unfortunately, they don't seem that common and I haven't seen any for sale. I have a few questions regarding this type spider

So here goes....

Is there a particular reason why the Avi Geroldi is hard to get ahold of?

Can you have more than one Avi Ger. in the same tank?

Are they good starter arboreal?

Any info you can give me would be great!!!

Loosely described by Tesmoingt in 1999 and named after Andre Braunshausen's grandfather. Very similar to A. avicularia and suspected of being the same species. The comparison to traits of A. avicularia-complex species are ignored in the paper, a distinction is "supposedly" made on the basis of a minute "dog's head" shape of one of the spermathecae. This genus is pretty sketchy in a lot of aspects but I think some work is being done currently to 'hopefully' clear up what is really a big mess. http://www.eightlegs.org/phpBB2/species.html

hello and welcome :)

yes, there is a reason they are hard to get ahold of... they are very rare (at least here in the US), and as reverendsterlin has already stated, they are in suspect of being the same thing as Avic avic.

there have been some A. avicularia communal tanks tried, i'm not sure on the success of those, but as j everson has stated, it's best not to as communal tanks with any T species.

they are a great arboreal, as are most avicularia (with the exception of Laeta, ive heard they are usually pretty aggressive for an Avic species). they are very fast (once again, which is pretty much all avicularia)

My H. incei seem to enjoy being in their tank together...:}
Really?? how big are they?? are they from the same sack?? did you introduce them or since they were itty bitty. do you have any pics?? (To the poster of this thread, Avics are an awsome genus, but there are a lot of sub species some of which are not totally accurate. L.Parahybana is another fun one to have IMO.)

My communal aviculara tank has been doing fine. I have to break it down now though because one of them matured out male and he needs to go make the rounds. The other two in there are a little small but who knows I may get a sac. They're getting split up after the male goes on his journey.
