I think she's amazing. She just had either her third or fourth molt and has hardened up nicely. I've had lots of luck getting her to hunt and eat three times a week. She's been feeding from the same batch of gut loaded crickets for two weeks. They get fresh veggies, oats, muesli, cat food, grapes, and orange cubes. I've had great success keeping crickets alive for 2+ weeks, so they become really nutritious feeders for my spiders. This one's a joy to watch. She's learning to be a master hunter with some encouragement from a paintbrush, lol. She's made a tube web on the back of a piece of cork, but she is out on display a lot of the day.

There is no reason to encourage them to eat. They will eat when they are ready and detect a prey source, that's not good husbandry.

I never said I encouraged her to eat. I use the paintbrush to direct the cricket. If she weren't hungry, she wouldn't eat it. You don't know everything, buddy, but you always have some smartass comment like you know better than everyone.

Why not look at the pretty picture of the spider and say, "nice spider?" Why always they piss and vinegar routine? You're a cliche.

Your writing suggests that you did, see above
You weren’t clear 🙄.

However, I was very clear.
The only thing that is very clear is that you made an assumption. A wrong one.

Do you know I've met several people on other tarantula hobby boards and forums that cite you specifically for them leaving this forum? All your experience means jack if you go around being nasty to people, making assumptions and telling them they have "bad husbandry" when you are in no position to make such a sweeping and devastating judgment. And you are such a prolific poster, it's no wonder people come here, have a bad experience, and never return.

That last point is especially sad when you realize that a lot of people start keeping tarantulas because their elegance, beauty, and ease of care attracts people dealing with depression, anxiety, poverty, etc., who aren't able to keep more traditional pets. They come here looking for advice in their new hobby and get torn to shreds by "veteran keepers," who make people feel small and stupid.

As someone who has been a teacher for twenty-two years, you may be an experienced keeper, but you shouldn't be trying to educate anyone about anything. You're bad at it.

Now let's return to my quote, and talk about your assumptions. I wrote:

"She's learning to be a master hunter with some encouragement from a paintbrush."

You're right that I was unclear, which makes it all the more bizarre that you would make the assumption you did. Notice, I didn't say that I was encouraging her to eat with the help of a paintbrush. I said she was learning to be a master hunter with some encouragement from a paintbrush. Now, I could have broken down exactly what I meant by that, but I figured most people would realize it was a turn of phrase and not assume I was...what? Using a paint brush to force feed my sling? How would that even work?

But since I wasn't clear, I'll break it down for you: the little one has been moved into a larger enclosure that she is still learning to navigate. She's getting better at finding the prey herself and has constructed some webbing in two ambush spots, so when I see her waiting in ambush and it's a feeding day, I'll pop the cricket in and, if the cricket hunkers down on the other side of the enclosure or hides, I'll use the paintbrush to guide it to her ambush spot. As I said, she's learning to be a master hunter with some help from a paintbrush. Pretty clear, if you ask me. You're the one that made a weird assumption and accused me of bad husbandry.

I welcome your feedback, but maybe you should do some reflecting about how you come off and if you want to be the person who tarantula keepers remember years later as the one who felt entitled to be a jerk to people who came looking for help, encouragement, etc.

Anyhow, this is my last post about this silliness. I posted the photos because I think the spider is beautiful and wanted to share it with other tarantula keepers. I'd like to stick to that.

I'm OK being wrong   That's part of life. I'm glad you weren't my teacher for even a second. I could say more things about your poor behavior but I'll be polite and won't.

Here's a great shot I got today. She is such an adorable little spider. She's perfect. I love watching her move deliberately, elegantly around the enclosure as she grows more comfortable in it.

The toes look hilarious! There is a button saying full screen when you attach the pic which loads the image inline your post and I can see the image without clicking, more convenient to view :)
