Ive watched this particular tarantula at petsmart for about 2months he's grown a good amount.. but he's not cared for properly I believe. Can anyone link me some good containers to house a avic avic of this size?? Maybe I can bring this guy home and give him proper care, he's bigger than my other two though and i am a beginner. But considering how long he's lasted at this Petsmart, I think I could care for him

Exo terra tall terrariums are good, and if you want something more display-y and have the cash to spare, Jamie’s Tarantulas sells a really pretty adult enclosure with everything you need.

Bigger just means hardier, so if you have younger ones you’ll be fine with this one. And to be honest, looking at the poor fella’s enclosure, almost ANYTHING you give him is an improvement. Take the lil’ fella home.

Yeah she’s just begging for you to take her home, look at those sad little eyes...

I’m still on the fence on getting an arboreal, but an avic seems like a good starter.

I think I will get him then as soon as I can grab an enclosure, how much harder is an arboreal to care for, my two slings are a gbb, and A. Geniculata,

I have an Avic avic and he’s not to hard to care for. I’m also a beginner. Lots of leaf littler at the top of the enclosure so he can web. Dry substrate with a water dish.

What Keke said. Avic Avics are darlings to care for, make beautiful webbing, and eat like machines. They are also fast growers. Imagine your GBB, but flipped 90 degrees upward :pompous:

Spend a couple hours perusing the forums. Look for the threads that start with “help my Avic is dying”. You’ll notice a trend in the responses and that will guide you to the best enclosure possible for your Avic.

Once I get it ill Pick the little guy up, technically he's the first tarantula that I kept seeing that made me research tarantulas, which caused me to find and buy a gbb, and now I just want everything

I consider my GBB an old world arboreal trainer spyder...
How do you concider a GBB to be an OW arboreal trainer? To me a GBB is between a beginner and intermediate species. I don't see how that would compare to the more advanced arboreals.

Sticks from outside can be used as long as you're confident there were no pesticides or chemicals of any kind used around them. Also, for a hide a nice large piece of corkbark works nicely. Some people use tubes, but I think a large flat piece works just fine as it gives the spider a place to stretch its legs on and hunt from, it can also make its webbing behind the bark provided you put it in at an angle. Sticks can be used to provide anchor points for its webbing, but they shouldn't be used instead of a proper hide.

I got my avic from Petsmart too! Mine was pretty small and was in a horrendous enclosure (one of those dreaded tarantula huts) and this was about 1.5 year ago. Not hard to care for - just set it up well as others have suggested!
