Nice photos and video. It's always good to see who is behind all the breeding projects.

Those H.pulchripes are doing really good btw.

Your photos are always pretty nice to look at! What do you use for your substrate?

Thanks.

I use a mix of peat moss, mixed with forest soil. The wild forest soil is collected where no pesticides are sprayed. Been doing it for quite some time now, and have never had problem!

You should rename this thread "The Spider Porn Thread" If only the mods would allow it. Great pictures as always, hope you get a lot of slings!

Haha, at least I stopped posting the furrow shots after matings.
In my defense, that is how I know if a mating was successful or not. I've had plenty of males act like they got the insert, but upon closer inspection, nothing even happened. Although disgusting, it's the only safe way to know.

I'm loving your photos!! Thank you so much for sharing them with us.

Where on earth did you find your Euathlus Sp. "Blue Femur" MM though? I've been looking for a guy for a while, and I don't think I've ever seen one anywhere.

I know a lot of people, hehe. No, I found him here, on this site. The male has since passed, and my other mature female just molted. So, I am in need of yet another MM! I will let you know if I find one.

You got some great breeding projects in the works - best of luck with them!
Have you had any luck breeding B.klaasi yet?

I have two mated females.
However, my first mated female's bald spot just turned black :/. So, she will end up molting, and not laying for me.

Some good friends and I made a trip this week to South Texas to do some research on Aphonopelma moderatum.
The outcome was very good! Here are some pictures from our trip:
Aphonopelma moderatum habitat:

1.0 Aphonopelma moderatum penultimate male burrow:

0.1 Aphonopelma moderatum (1.5")

0.1 Aphonopelma moderatum (2") burrow

0.1 Aphonopelma moderatum (3.5") burrow

0.1 Aphonopelma moderatum (2")

0.1 Aphonopelma moderatum (2.5") burrow

0.1 Aphonopelma anax (2.5")

0.1 Aphonopelma anax mature female

0.1 Aphonopelma anax mature female

0.1 Eucteniza rex?

Scolopendra heros (but not true heros heros I don't think?)

Schistocerca sp.

Melanocanthon sp.

Extremely large ants? We saw thousands of these things under a large light at night, digging holes together. Anyone have any idea what they are?? I was thinking they wee queen leaf cutter ants, but no way were there this many.

A baby rattle snake that was almost stepped on in the middle of night research

INCREDIBLE!

Did you actually collect some of those moderatum individuals? I'd love to see those circulate around in the hobby.

I more meant circulate the slings that you produce. I feel like you could make some serious $$$ from those.

The trip was about collecting a few, raising to mature breeding pairs, and yes, getting them back into the hobby. However, more of a conservation act, vs making money. Has nothing to do with money when trying to preserve a rare species and making sure it continues in this hobby.
