Hi all!
I’m new to scorpions but not arachnids (long time spider and tarantula keeper).
My kid talked me into a scorpion after months of begging, and I’m shocked at how much I’m enjoying him! Quickly becoming a collection favourite.
I’m trying to learn as much as I can about them, and that includes being able to reliably sex. I’ve attached pics our lovely pal Hank- am I correct that we’ve got ourselves a gentleman here?
Thanks in advance!

Operculum looks male although a bit ambiguous to me. The pectines look male. If it is an H.silenus and adult you can check the movable finger on the chela. It will have an obvious enlarged tooth on the movable finger if male.

Thanks! I’m not sure of the species, beyond a Heterometrus of some kind. I’m still learning and definitely not confident in my ability to determine between species.
But it does look kind of ambiguous doesn’t it? I’m glad it’s not just me.
It should be an adult- it appears full grown (at least 6” I would say) and the person I got it from said around 3-4 years old (but who knows).

I’ll get some more pics once he wakes up for the evening. I don’t want to poke him out of his home again today (just rehoused).
