Terrestrials. Arboreals are annoying because they can't just be tossed in a critter keeper with some substrate and a water dish, you have to give them stuff to climb on and find some kind of container that's tall but still nice for viewing. I like the ease of terrestrials. Also arboreals are too fast and jumpy, and so many of them web/hide. And you never know when they will eat so it's harder to catch them in the act. Terrestials pounce once a bug walks up to them, which it will right away. Arboreals either have to wait until the bug decides to crawl wherever you are or they come down, usually once you are gone.

Plus so many terrestrials are docile. I think docile is a plus.

On the other hand, those pokies sure are lookers...
I just fed my Formosa commune of three. I threw in 6 undersized lateralis (I like watching them hunt so instead of feeding 3-4 properly sized feeders, I give more but smaller). Two of them literally jumped onto the lats. One of the two actually tackled 2 more and had 3 small lats in its jaws. The second Formosa was content with its single lat (the lat was one of the larger ones that were thrown in). The last Formosa, I just noticed, is in pre-molt and didn't show too much interest in the roaches.

Feeding terrestrials is definitely easier - I love watching my L. Parahybana grab its food from my tongs and do a little dance - but there's nothing compared to my pokies jumping from one side of its enclosure from the top to the other side of the enclosure to the bottom. Simply astounding!!!

Arboreals are more active and you can do more with their enclosure. Put a nice backround and stuff in there.

I like both. I have my favorite T narrowed down to 3, one terrestrial, G. pulchra, one arboreal, A. purpurea, and one semi arboreal, C. cyanopubescens. So I had to pick both.
Of course then there is always, pokies, phamphos, brachys, psalmos,.....
Oh, just forget it, I'm hopeless!! I love all tarantulas!!!!!

I'm a HUGE avi fan, but, I can't pick one over the other. I have a hard time deciding what I like better from one day to another{D

Avis RULE though!!!

ARBOREALS4LIFE!

I pick arboreals. There only a handful of terrestrials I like, such as GBBs, LPs, and the Theraphosa genus.

I voted for both, it is really species v. species for me.

I'd rather have a nice Poecilotheria sp. over virtually any Aphonopelma sp., though in turn I'd take a Pamphobeteus sp. over both a Poecilotheria sp. and an Aphonopelma sp.

Had the original author created this thread a month earlier, I'd undoubtably have chosen the 'terrestrials' option solely due to the fact that quite frankly, I've just had a laundry list of arboreals spontaneously die compared to almost no unexplainable terrestrial sp. mortalities.

All of my tarantulas are generally motionless but my big 'tanks' are at least motivated by prey, whereas until recently seemingly every single arboreal I've kept waited until sundown to claim their 'feast.' The arboreals are also very shy and tend to run or hide when I "poke around" in their enclosures. But after nearly all hope was diminished, my cambridgei started showing her true colors. I dropped a cricket in and she swooped in to "crunch" it faster than my geniculata ever has. Then with my state of awe still lingering and as prevalent as ever, I misted her and she rose up on her four back legs to give me a truly imposing threat display with the dying cricket still "being held hostage" in her mighty fangs. It was incredible, she has been consistently practicing these behaviors for about the last month. Definitely worth every penny of her ten dollar [sling] price tag! That spider is truly a magnificent sight to behold, with a soft, subtle coloration, though still gorgeous patterning and an amazing "personality" if you will, to boot. I think I've selected my new favorite invert!

I like both..

Arboreal for their speed and fiestyness..
Terrestrial for the same reason most have already said.. Them being built like a tank..

I think all have something to offer as far as veiwing pleasure.. As long as they are not pet holes..
