I thought it would be coolto see what you guys prefer: Arboreals, terrestrials, or both! Please include why in your response : )

I started out with new world terrestrials but now I'm all about old world arboreals. To me, the new world is old school, and the old world is new

Pokies simply fascinate me. They got me started. Today, I added to my collection 4 OBT's, 2 H Macs, and an S. Cal. I already love the speed, feistiness, and defensive nature of these old worlds. I definitely have a strong appreciation for their abilities and will respect them as beautiful yet capable creatures.

Also, I like how the arboreals I keep don't have urticulating hair. I suffer from asthma and I'm super nervous of inhaling some hairs when I'm working with my L. Parahybana. I've also read about getting hairs in the eye or just bad rashes on the skin. It's weird but I'm almost more afraid of my new world terrestrials than my old world arboreals.

Let's hear about the rest of you!

No preference, each offers something different.

I hate dealing with arboreal enclosures.

Access is always a pain, the water dish is always a pain, and I'm a bit of a klutz sometimes so I'm always terrified they are going to get knocked over and a taller closure is just that much more likely to get bumped.

Arboreal spiderlings always want to rush the cap. Every time.

I prefer the look of terrestrials anyway, they are such fat awesome little tanks.

Both.
The girth of the terrestrials is as impressive as the swiftness of the arboreals!
The differences between the two are the reasons I like both of them.

I prefer areboreal over terrestrials, they're just amazing looking, plus they're enclosures don't take up as much room. I do like both, but arboreals are prefered. (especially nasty tempered ones {D )

Definitely arboreals. My favorite genera are mostly arboreals (Lampropelma, Poecilotheria, Avicularia, Psalmopoeus) and one terrestrial genus, Pamphobeteus.

I like the long legginess of the arboreals and the overall look they have. Their behavior is more interesting, creating tube webs, dirt curtains and other hides. I like how fast they are. I like that you can give them tall enclosures and they will utilize the height you give them (basically a 2-D pet versus a 3-D pet). I like that they're more graceful and don't flick hairs.

The only terrestrials I really like are Pamphos, and that's due to their "you're not gonna boss me around" attitude, massive carapace with iridescent designs, large size, and the in your face beauty of the mature males.

Of course, I like other T's too. But I think I could keep a collection of just those 5 genera and be more than happy.

I perfer arboreals but I selected both simply because I have alot of terrerstrial slings atm and Pampho's will always be part of my collection.

I have a few arboreals, but I selected terrestrials I because I definitely love the size of the Theraphosas, Pamphos and Megaphobemas. One of these days i'll definitely get more arboreals!

I agree with Sterlingspider, arboreal enclosures are a pain to deal with. Especially slings. Our Pokie slings just love to hang on the lids of their enclosures, and not move. I like the terrestrials, especially the burrowers, because you open the enclosure and they immediately go down into their burrow. My two favourite genera are Brachypelma and Ceratogyrus, and since I'm the one replying and not Mackenzie, I voted terrestrial.

Arboreal.

I do have a few terrestrials, but I'd much rather deal with the speed and venom than the hair-kicking. Although pet-holes annoy me, I kind of like the semi-arboreal pet-webs.

Motivation

I selected both out of apreciation for their differences.

*Even tho i only have one T so far
wich is an Aboreal ^^ *

Solution for T's that take up residence at lid's and thus:
Door/s at the front work's nicely for me ... although
such container's could be hard to get for those who need
smaller enclosures ... and there could be good and bad
sides to that setup as well i recon ..

I like both for diff reasons but I think ultimatley I prefer terrestrials. I think they are just easier to look after and you can do more with them. Their tanks are easier to deal with and I love watching them dig out their little homes and make burrows. My OBT just makes a load of web and then I never see her. Terrestrials just seem somehow cuter and id rather get hairs flicked on me than be bitten. I have to agree that the speed and bad tempers of arboreals are impressive though. I think its nice to have a mix of both in your collection.

We have favorites in both arboreals and terrestrials. The male in the family tends to buy more terrestrials and the female tends to buy more arboreal.

Love em all. It just so happens that some of my favorite Ts are terrestrials: GBB, G. pulchripes, B. vagans.

Personally..I never thought I ll have arboreals, ever... I liked terrestrials cause they seemed easier to care for and seemed slower and bulkier. Then one daY I got A.versicolor (3rd instar) as a gift..and it was the cutest carebear tarantula I ever saw... I tong feed him every time and it is so gentle..
Then I got 2 more avics, same with them...

Basically, I was afraid I wouldnt be able to handle faster Ts that had tendency to climb, since few of my avics like to run out of the enclosure and take a fast tour around my arms :)

So at this moment I got 5 arboreal and 6 terrestrial Ts.
And I like them all for a different reason.

Well, I thought I'd prefer terrestrials, but here I am with 2/3 of my T's being arboreal with a probable 4th and final on the way. :D

Terrestrials. Arboreals are annoying because they can't just be tossed in a critter keeper with some substrate and a water dish, you have to give them stuff to climb on and find some kind of container that's tall but still nice for viewing. I like the ease of terrestrials. Also arboreals are too fast and jumpy, and so many of them web/hide. And you never know when they will eat so it's harder to catch them in the act. Terrestials pounce once a bug walks up to them, which it will right away. Arboreals either have to wait until the bug decides to crawl wherever you are or they come down, usually once you are gone.

Plus so many terrestrials are docile. I think docile is a plus.

On the other hand, those pokies sure are lookers...
