Are these millipede deaths coincidence or a pattern?

Millipedes are my favorite to help produce healthy strong compost.

What is with the heating? Pedes live and thrive in cool to cold damp soil. Heating the decomposing layer is culturing in an incubator. Guaranteed to produce a exponential amount of every kind of organism, but especially both beneficial and harmful bacteria. You're lighting a forest fire to keep the nursery warm.

The detritus layer is a self regulating biosphere. It warms itself with the correct organisms, and also provides cooler locations which is as critical as the heating. One of the lords of this biosphere is the pede, able to move to the location and temperature that is most conducive to it's survival and reproduction. Heating the entire mass is just begging for disaster.
