I'm just curious are there any species of tarantula that lack tibial hook and if that's a yes what species are they?
Wow thx thats a lot of info but how do they mate then since they don't have the hooks to stop the femaleThis might be helpful.
MM's without tibial hooks?
I got a mystery spider off Craigslist the other day that appears to be a MM but has no tibial hooks. Posting here and on Facebook hasn't provided a solid ID (can't get good enough pictures) but I did learn that N. carapoensis doesn't mature with hooks so that seems like the best bet so far...arachnoboards.com
I know the Hysterocrates don't, the males just go in a get the job done! I have paired 3 species and the fenale always drums to show she is ready, where as the males don't drum oddly. Hysterocrates females rarely eatvthe male too.. the female being more co operative really helps alotWow thx thats a lot of info but how do they mate then since they don't have the hooks to stop the female
True yes, Don't trust a female drumming haha spiders are very unpredictable lolHooks don’t always stop a female from eating a male. If she wants him for brunch it will happen regardless if the male has hooks or not.
they know how to talk to a girl....Wow thx thats a lot of info but how do they mate then since they don't have the hooks to stop the female
Well now that you've covered the many genera/species lacking tibial apophysis. I might as well add the oddballs to the discussion too.Loads. This is the updated version of the list from the other thread.
List of species that lack tibial spurs updated for 2015
This is an updated version I've done of the list found in Ross, L.K. & R.C. West. 2005. A Listing of Male Theraphosids Which Lack Tibial Apophyses. Journal of the British Tarantula Society 20 (3): 81. I suspect Haploclastus and Loxomphalia (if it is not synonymised with Hysterocrates) also...www.tarantulaforum.com

Very good list to know of. Very sad to see only 2 Aussie names there however, pretty much every one of our like 70 Aussie sp. lack spurs to my knowledge. At least ive never seen photos of any that did have themLoads. This is the updated version of the list from the other thread.
