Wow thx thats a lot of info but how do they mate then since they don't have the hooks to stop the female

I know the Hysterocrates don't, the males just go in a get the job done! I have paired 3 species and the fenale always drums to show she is ready, where as the males don't drum oddly. Hysterocrates females rarely eatvthe male too.. the female being more co operative really helps alot

Hooks don’t always stop a female from eating a male. If she wants him for brunch it will happen regardless if the male has hooks or not.

I don't think any of my Phlogius males ever had hooks, and there's quite a few non tarantula primitives that lack them too

Well now that you've covered the many genera/species lacking tibial apophysis. I might as well add the oddballs to the discussion too.
Iridopelma mature males have two sets of tibial hooks, a hook on each tibia of the front 4 legs. 🤷‍♂️

Very good list to know of. Very sad to see only 2 Aussie names there however, pretty much every one of our like 70 Aussie sp. lack spurs to my knowledge. At least ive never seen photos of any that did have them
