I have 3 A. laetas and I wouldn't describe any of them as docile.

Here is a pic of one of my females. This was taken sometime after she ate the male and before she ate the eggsac she was holding.:(

hurrainia

that is really cool looking.

Is it true the A.metallica's are called white toes?.

I have an Avic.avic that shows a threat posture every time I feed it, it'll grab the cricket from the tweezers, trow up its front legs and try to punk me out.
It's kinda cool, like its saying " come on punk what you gonna do, hu?hu? yea thought so";P

BTW, what did you do to get it to rear up like that?
Taking a photo! =;-)

serious, I can't remember for sure since I took this photo some years ago. I think it was during transfering him in the cage of a female (or during a photo session) – not sure.

all the best,
Martin

PS.: A female with larvaes and fresh molted nymphs in her opened retreat :

Thanks for the reply Martin :)

Hey Phillip, you have a beautiful hurriana there. My hurriana was also doscile, too bad it ended up being a male. I think I need to get another one of those.

But it sounds to be the consensus that the A. laeta is not a beginner's Avic.

Actually I have had laeta as well and I never had any pissy behavior out of mine. It acted like a typical avic. Perhaps it's the way I handle them or something I don't really know as the ones that have had them rear up I haven't seen what they did to cause it but I can say this. Any T will rear up if it is startled but it doesn't mean that it is aggressive or even likely to bite. If I go poking around inside one of the versi hideouts they will spin around and slap the tweezers but at the same time I can scoop them out into my hand no prob.

Really? I know the toes are very dominant on avics and urticans and the like. But versicolors don't seem to have the toes. They have pink toe-nails, but not the toes. :?

Ive kept most of the avic species, geroldi and purppurea, and versi being my favorites, never saw a threat posture or anything like that. I keep them in large enclosures good humidity and warmth with good ventilation as well.

Never a prob females with eggsacs in my experience, will get testy but no open displays like martin showed guess it varies from specimen to specimen but overall id have to say they are docile, with some exceptions.lol

I have two adult female versicolors, the one female that reared an egg sac and had lings running around in her enclosure was VERY defensive and would readily try to bite. once she was separated from her lings and after a period of time she was back to her usual docile self.
I saw Mike "Troll" get bitten by an a. avic that he was trying to handle.
I have several a. braunshauseni and have not seen any defensive behaviour from them yet but they are still only around 2" in size.
