I hear that the Avic Avic and the versicolor are very docile. Now my question is, are all the Avicularia Species docile and are they all considered good beginner species? Apreciate it!

I had an Avicicularia avicularia that threw up a threat posture every time I got near the cage.

I've never kept them myself but I have heard from more than one source that A. leata can be a bit testy at times.

Most of the Avics are doscile. From what I've heard, there are a couple of them that are known to be semi aggressive, these are the A. hurriana and the A. braunshauseni.

The others have good temperments. I have 8 different species of the Avics and I have never had any of them show aggression towards me. Right now, I don't have the two I stated above but, at one time, I had a male A. hurriana and he was doscile, but like I said, I have heard they can be semi-aggressive.

I believe Avics are a good beginner species, but they can be quick. Their quickness is what you need to watch out for as an Avic owner.

All my Avics have been defensive and prone to a threat posture... I wouldn't say docile.

Don't forget, whatever the stereotype, you're always going to have the exceptions. This too works with the opposite; a spider regarded as highly aggressive being 'docile'

Anyway... They do make good beginner spiders. More flighty and speedy than the beginner terrestrials, a bit duller but other than that they are an ideal introduction to the wonderful world of arboreal spiders.

I still can't figure out where folks came up with aggressive hurianna stories as all of them I have had have been as calm if not more calm than any avic.

Braunshauseni I have seen rear up however. Not that often but I have seen them do it.

both my versies are quite docile. they are a little flighty, but when i have to get into their enclosures they'll crawl out onto my hand and sit still until you breath on them, then they scoot a little.

Hey Martin,

Thats a wicked shot of your A. laeta, do you have any top views of it?

BTW, what did you do to get it to rear up like that?

I have 6 different species of Avics. for a total of 14, all of them are at least 1 1/2" 8 A. Avics., 1 A. Purp., 1 A. Minatix, 1 A. Versi., 2 A. Leatas and 1 A. Bicegoi and have yet to have any of them show the least bit of aggression. Here is a picture of one of my Leatas, best I could get right now as he did not want to stand still

Once my A. avic got settled in she resents being held, but I've never seen a threat posture. I think I enjoy the tube web shes got going on though even more!! Avics are cool, I do think they are overlooked too often. My A.a is very beautiful, and she actually hunts her food!! My OBT and B. albo just sit and wait for it to walk by..................

That is the T (A. Hurriana) that has been on the top of my list for quite a few months now, Have been able to find them at a couple places but something else always seems to come up. Really want to find one local in So. Cal. but have not seen one yet :(
