Got this B emelia Dec 12th. She used the hide for the 1st 15 minutes, then went up the wall and stayed for a few days.

I saw her down and grooming and thought she was finally settling. Well, she's now been up the wall for 2 or 3 weeks.

It's a shame because I traded 3 Ts that hid all the time for this one female brachypelma as they're supposed to be good display spiders. Welp, I never see her.

Is this normal behavior? I've never had a T take *this* long to settle in. Even an adult tarantula....

She really is beautiful- when she's down.

Can take months for some spiders to settle in, if the set-up is right there is nothing to do
The distance between top to soil does seem to be a little high though from the picture but it has a hide, and I hope a couple cm of soil aswell so it seems fine

Oh yes, she's got 5 inches of soil in the most shallow spot and probably 8 in the back.

I'll try to be patient lol thank you!

If I see this persist for more than a day, I always blame the substrate…in other people’s setups 😂 maybe because I use reptisoil? I am guilty of pressing it versus just dumping it in…is it too loose?

Save for my C darlingi which I had to use a new bag out of desperation, then I blame too moist.

In this instance, I’m seeing a T in the darkest corner of the enclosure. Really no reason not to use the hide unless it doesn’t like the sub or perhaps the aperture of the hide (though it looks nice and oval to me)

The sub is pressed.
She came from a shoebox shaped enclosure with hardware store type topsoil and a long pc of cork that she burrowed under.

Now she's on reptisoil with the smallest bit of peet mixed in. Gave her so much room to burrow and she hates it 😭 (just kidding)
But I really thought I was giving her an upgrade. Now she's utterly terrified.

I thought I was the only one always being stressed about my soil being too loose, thanks for the validation😂
