I plan to get a nice big tarantula cribs for xeep next but this is what we are in for now. Their old enclosure needed mesh on the lid replaced and they never really seemed secure in there. I have been dragging my feet with it so I took the opportunity of him finally molting to rehouse now that xeep isn't in premolt.

Gave MUCH more substrate as xeep loves to dig

Nice spider and enclosure. Personally, I would make the water bowl more accessible.

Be cautious with tinted moss, you don't know what chemicals were used to tint it green.

looks great and gorgeous tarantula!!

I would certainly remove the water dish out of the skull, and personally the skull is too big in there if it was my enclosure. I’d go with some fake plants over the skull and yes I’d also ditch them he dyed moss for just regular sphagnum moss.

Once Xeep is done being a baby about the soil not being bone dry and moves from behind it, I will probably replace it with something else. The soil is dry, I don't moisten because Xeep doesn't like it, it's just not dry enough apparently XD.

Also AF Emilia? That's the one from south America that kind of looks like a B. Emilia right? So cool ^^ **edit: I have since been I formed it stands for adult female XD oops. That's cool though! I still don't officially know male or female for xeep but I haven't seen any hooks so maybe female too

Thanks! I appreciate that, didn't think of it. That is so annoying, can't trust half the stuff in pet stores nowadays <.< It's from PMart and was labeled green moss.

Oh by the way, “AF” stands for Adult Female. He was not referencing a different species but that is looks like his Adult Female Brachypelma emilia

and other relevant abbreviation is MM - Mature Male

Yeah I plan on maybe using a different dish anyway. His old enclosure was bigger so the skull was cool at the time. His water dish has a very wide lip and takes up more space than it should. I had to half bury it to get it to even fit there even though it's my smallest water dish. Xeep has always utilized the inside of the skull quite a bit which is why I initially kept it but idk... might be cool to do a mini bioactive. The plants could be replanted once I get their final home right? That doesn't mess things up too bad? Never done anything with live plants

no worries all a learning experience. I would not do a planted enclsoure with this species as they should be kept dry and plants need more moisture and its best to wait to do an enclosure where you have to manage multiple life forms and cycles until you have some more solid experience under your belt. IMO Also know that a planted enclosure or even a true 'bioactive' does not benefit the tarantula in a quantifiable way, at the end of the day planted enclosures are more for us than they are them. I have been keeping for quite a bit and have no planted enclosures. Its kinda just a fad right now.

Get some nice house plants and keep them seperate from the T it will be more beneficial for the plants and is far simpler.

Yeah true... true. They absolutely hate any kind of moisture too. That's fine by me, less mold and stuff to worry about

The next spider I get is going to be a caribena versicolor but that won't be for a bit. If I still want to do live plants I can with that maybe but ehh... like you said more for me than the spider so maybe not.

I would recommend against that with a Caribena versicolor or any Aviculariinae more than I did with the Brachypelma emilia lol. People have killed many of them by keeping them with too much moisture and not enough active air flow. I keep my C. versicolor bone dry with a water dish, vertical wood and fake plant cover up high surround the wood, you could do real plants but it’s a risk I just don’t feel is worth it for me. Just do your homework either way, ut can be done, but it’s often done to a fatality.

Huh, wow good to know!

It's funny, every time I reaserch them people are keeping them more and more dry lol I know that there is piles of bad husbandry info out there so I appreciate it ^^

Yes if you look practically anywhere other than arachnoboards for Aviculariinae hunsbadry you will usually find bad info that says they need high heat and very high humidity. That killed loads of them.

I will deff do more reaserch on arachnoboards, thanks! I am still figuring this site out. I mostly listen to Tom Moran, tarantula collective, and a few others people in the community seem to trust aswell.
