So I just wanted to ask: Is it safe to feed my crickets apples if i washed them? I dont want my Tarantula to die because a cricket ate insecticides.

I feed my crickets thoroughly well washed apples, lettuce, carrots, and potatoes etc.. and slice them up in chunks, and I've yet to have an issue.

I feed my crickets (i don't breed those... not IMO worth; here are very cheap, i buy those from other breeders online) carrots and cricket fodder only. Never had an issue as well.

If you wash well those apples IMO no problems, man.

You could also opt for organic pesticide free apples? I do not seek them out for myself but I would imagine organic food stores would have pesticide free ones maybe???

I keep my cricket feeding simple and easy. I feed them fish food for food, and for water I use a small water dish that they can get out of when they inevitably fall into it. Never had one death from that, but they are fragile as all heck so they often croak randomly for who knows what reason lol.

Also one of the major factors in having large cricket deaths is overcrowding. Do yourself a favor and do not try and pack as many as you can into there. It will be a disaster.

I'm not sure how it is in Germany but organic in the US and a lot of other counties does not mean pesticide free. It means they use approved pesticides. It is rare for any producer larger then family size to not use some kind of pesticide. A lot of people make an assumption if it's organic it has never been around pesticides and in a lot of counties that isn't so.

When I was a kid there was a true no pesticide organic test farm up the road ran by the NC Agriculture department. It worked really well with smaller plots but when you went 1000s to 10,000s of acres it didn't fair so well. It is hard to incorporate natural plant insect repellent techniques and other true organic methods on a scale that size.

Long story short, in the US organic doesn't mean what people thinks it means.

To the OP, wash them good and they will work fine for crickets. I like using carrots as was mentioned above because like most tubers or root vegetables they take a lot longer to rot. An apple can go bad in a day or two. Carrots can last weeks.

Apples can be safe, wash them first as with anything you give your feeders.

I prefer carrots and celery because of water content and they last longer.

I also like to make sure my tarantulas eat their veggies.

There isn't any problem with feeding apples to crickets. I prefer to use vegetables though as I have noticed the sugars in fruits to draw in more flies and bugs that I would rather not have to worry about.

If you're that paranoid (like me), just skin all of your fruits and veggies before feeding them to your feeders. This is almost certainly excessive, though.

Apples, along with rice, are two plants that absorb and retain arsenic. Not really for humans, less so for inverts.

I feed my crickets romaine, lettuce, potatoes, & carrots; takes care of their food and water needs. Fruits tend to attract flies.

I wouldn't feed crickets fruit. Within the past year, a scientific study came out which showed fruits (and I THINK veggies too) that were washed the appropriate way described to us still had pesticides present.

However, what is unknown is how much pesticide is required to affect humans, let alone Ts. It's a crap shoot, unless you grow it yourself.

I'm from and in the USA ;)

Yeah that's why I said organic pesticide free. As in both organic and pesticide free. Can't imagine those growth steroids they use are good for crickets lol.

I speak German so I set my location to a German word. Funny thing is it actually found a legit location on the map for the word I used. That was unexpected XD
