Mine stayed underground all the time. Just give it lots of moist sub (like for any obligaatory burrower) and let it decide on its own where it wants to live.

I have one that has made a couple burrow/tunnels but I still see it out on the surface a few times a week

what I'm trying to decide is if I want to use the enclosure with room for 10+" of sub, or the other enclosure that has 4-6" of sub

I'd say go for 6". It should be enough for this species IMO.

They're opportunistic burrowers. Some will dig, some won't. Whatever the DLS end up being give it at least that depth to burrow, I give mine more. Mine is usually holed up underground entirely for at least 4-6 months out of the year. If she has her burrow open she's usually sitting there with her toes waiting for food. I almost never see mine on the surface.

Fossorial, mine burrowed through 6" of substrate down to the bottom back corner of the enclosure and then dug a 10" tunnel from there to the front.

Fossorial species. Mine spends almost all of his time in the labyrinth of a burrow he created underground. If given the opportunity, most of them will create deep, complicated burrows.

Mine has 10 inches of substrate and made tunnels all the way to the bottom and all the way around the sides a seemani burrow.jpg

I have an established 2inches slings, it completely unearthed the entire enclosure creating tunnels and holes around the delicup.

They are definitely fossorial, I would give a subadult/adult as much substrate as you can within reason!

Within 12 hours of being rehoused in a larger enclosure my sling burrowed completely to the bottom.

The burrow itself is a perfect round shape!
