Are there any small scorpions that are good for beginners or at least that have milder venom?
Where can I find a Striped Bark Scorpion?Centruroides hentzi. They are tiny, adorable, and communal.
Emps are boring.
EDIT: Not sure if Vaejovis carolinianus makes it to WV but they are also tiny and have mild venom.
I dunno they are a different species which means they are a whole different ballgame. Try looking under stuff and shining UV light.Where can I find a Striped Bark Scorpion?
I live in Kansas so it should be common. Anywhere I should look? Nearby I have some type of forest-y area with a lot of leaves and trees. Should I look there? Near my fence I have a woodpile.. Should I dig into there and look for them?
Ha, I think most of us were taught that when we were kids. There are still adults today that will kill every snake, scorpion and spider they see because of what they were taught, just to play it safe so the parents thought, and their parents, and their parents.... Diplocentrus species are pretty mild, common but hard to find on the market sometimes since there aren't very many people living where they are out in desert areas. No, no scorpions in WV. I've never seen one and have never heard of someone catching one. Now, when I lived in Durango, Mexico (I was actually born there), there were tons of scorpions. Deadly ones too, at least medically significant. I remember the majority of them being smaller, but that was a long time ago and I was too young to know what species they were. At the time, all I knew was that they could kill me and had to be squished.
But they might be a little bit boring for beginners because you see them twice a year if you're lucky.Israeli gold scorpion aka scorpio maurus palmatus. stings are mild but watch out these little guys can be fiesty. Good luck
