just got home from work and visited the scorps tank. there are lots of ants crawling inside. can this affect the scorps inside or am i going to clear the tank and put some new substrate? those are black ants inside.
ants could even kill your scorpion when it molts(ants have to eat tooasher8282 said:yeah, it might be ok if it were just a few, yr scorp could eat them, but when it comes time to molt, that could get very nasty for yr little guy. i agree, clean it out.
Are you sure that they`re ants. It can be a lot of baby crickets. It happened to me when once when I put a gravid female in the tank as food. She laid a bunch of eggs before she was eaten.mobster said:just got home from work and visited the scorps tank. there are lots of ants crawling inside. can this affect the scorps inside or am i going to clear the tank and put some new substrate? those are black ants inside.
is it inside or outside the upper rim of the tankKugellager said:Definitely remove the ants and clean the tank as soon as possible.
Since you are in a tropical climate ants and other crawling insects will be a continuing problem. Bug traps won't do it. I would suggest that you place a small line of vaseline/petroleum jelly around the edge of tha glass which will prevent ants and other crawling critters from climbing the tank. Upper rim works best.

Either will work; but putting it inside makes it less likely that you will get the petroleum jelly all over tha place by rubbing up against it accidently.mobster said:is it inside or outside the upper rim of the tank
