Desrt, yes but I did this in my small backyard not out in a wide open anting area.

I caputured: Solenopsis molesta, Lasius neoniger, Acanthomyops latipes (sp?), and Pogonomyrmex occidentalis.

Oh goody in 2 months im going to have a ton of colonies.

Honestly, when you have a passion for ants, any species will entertain you. The two colonies I have I found in my backyard and I am quite thrilled with them. Like I said, let's not encourage him, desertdwellr.

Come to find out one of the Acanthomyops is latipes the other I'm not entirely sure about. The S. molesta have died, the lasius killed them. Oh, forgot that I found a late flier of Tetramorium caespitum last night aswell, and this morning when I stepped out onto my deck I saw a queen so I ran down stairs and onto the dirt below the deck and captured her, seems a Formcia queen. Parasitic for sure, dunno what species. Slightly smaller than F. aserva and the thorax pattern and color shadings are a bit off but the peitole is still red which points me to aserva again. Interesting....
