Ant Farms

THey are selling setups for antfarms at the pet store that I frequent. I was wondering if most traditional andfarms were just temporary with most of the ants dying iff pretty fast or if you can actually get queen ants to keep the colony alive?

Most commercial ant farms don't include the queen, so the colony dies off pretty quickly. The only ways to get a queen and colony are to either dig up a nest and collect them yourself or to order from a biological supply house (I think you can get termite colonies as well from some of them).

Were you thinking of any particular type of ant? I've always thought leaf-cutters would be cool.
