That is interesting, I will admit when I was fortunate enough to live in Apple Valley, all I ever saw there were BWs even though other residents claim to have seen browns.
That makes sense. Hesperus has adapted to some pretty hostile environments. I recall being surprised to find them in holes and crevices out past Trona near the salt flats.According to a colleague who has extensively studied the brown widow's spread in California, they're found only in areas of human habitation, not in natural habitats, while the L. hesperus populations are still healthy in the natural areas.
