Slightly off topic question, but how are the T's at petco? My friend bought some exotic fish (I know, different creature entirely) from there a few months ago and they died days after purchase. I've considered going there. I'm just concerned at the quality of their smaller animals.

And nice Rosie btw. Sounds like shes in caring hands.
Ask silly questions, get silly answers. My local chain pet store is great, and have very high quality T's which are guaranteed sexed... Did I mention I edged out their old dealer because he was concnered with money and not the exotics he would deal? Every individual store is different, and so are the individual members of their staff. There old manager wouldnt do business with me because he was chalk full of propaganda, but there new one is receptive to proper husbandry.

From what I can gather it means Penultimate. The molt that leads to full maturation of a male or female T.
I believe it only applies to males as they won't molt again after they mature. If they do, it's called a post ultimate molt and is often deadly or harmful to the male and will likely lead to lost limbs and deformities if not death. However, females will continue to molt after reaching maturity so it is not the "ultimate", or final molt.

Wood chips is a bad idea sorry, you should change the substrate to coco fiber or something similar (forgive me if someone's already mentioned that previously in this thread lol) Roseas like to have firm ground beneath them, wood chips are rough, sharp and move around when walked on, I bet if you swap to firmly padded coco fiber she'll be much more comfortable =)

Oh wait! Sorry you already changed it, forget my comment! lol (and I didn't realise there was a second page of comments so I"m completely off topic, what a fail haha)

I personally wouldn't buy animals, mainly exotics, from petco as they don't really know how to properly care for them. I went in one day and had to tell them their red tail boa had died and not one of them at the counter knew it was a snake. Another time they had crickets in with their ball pythons!!
I actually work at petco. and i cant speek for all, but the petcos in my district are very good with our animals. i make sure my store and 2 others properly care for everything we have. we have very good and healthy animals. and if they are not, i refuse to sell them until they are. i do not let things like that red tail happen. and as for the crickets in the ball python tank, it is most likely due to poorly built tanks. we have it happen all the time. the crickets can fit through the dividers and it annoys me. im not saying all petcos are good, cause they arnt. but there are some places that care about our animals.

and my rosea does that sometimes too. its nothing to worry about.

Everything sounds good now. I probably don't have to tell you this, but don't be all that concerned if she hasn't eaten yet. It's been several months since my Rosie has eaten. She's a pet rock alright, but I could never bring myself to give her away because she is rather impressive to look at.

Yes, I absolutely love her. She so peculiar sometimes. The most interesting pet rock I've even seen. She hasn't eaten in 5 months now, but it is winter and i let the cold get to them so they know it is. so she's just fasting. I still offer her a cricket every 2 weeks tho.

She's much happier on her tightly packed bone dry coco fiber substrate, however, she has been drinking more lately. I've had to fill her water dish(about 30ml)2 times this week. She's not hovering by it tho.

are you actually witnessing her drinking? Is the sub around her dish wet? It could just be wicking out of the dish. Watch that, or your t will start to climb again ;)
I used to use a crappy ceramic dish with one of my Lp and it was the size of an ashtray. I would fill it full, and it would be empty in a day/day and a half... NO WAY was that thing drinking that much...
Then i discovered wicking

I highly doubt you can refuse to sell them.
and actually yes, i have the right to refuse a sale. and if it is not a healthy animal. i will not sell it. but considering i take any unhealthy animals off the floor and into a wellness room, you wouldnt know we had it anyways.

I just see it as Walmart refusing to sell a broke item. They don't care. Maybe it's just my area, but there is not a single pet shop in a 100 mile radius that knows anything about animals. Especially the big ones.

Yeah, most petstores, mostly the big chains dont care about anything other than money. But because i work in a petco, the animals in my store are some of the best takin care of and best looking in the district. and me and another manager makes sure of that. and when you are selling living breathing animals, i do not sell any of them unless i know they will be takin care of. i do not sell to people who just want it because they want it. i make sure they are going to a good home.

not arguing with you Redneck, but how EXACTLY do you make sure they are going to a good home? What do you base your judgement off of?

I think its cool that youre trying to avoid selling to inexperienced people, but think it would be COOLER if you actually described what you base your opinion off of.. That way, any future petstore employees may have an idea to go off of/example

---------- Post added 12-16-2012 at 12:17 PM ----------

do you have experience owning/researching/caring properly for all the various animals you sell? Do you explain care? hand out a mini print off care sheet? etc

and no its all good. haha. and i cant be sure every time that they know exactly what they are doing. but i do make sure before they leave with any animal that i have provided my experience and that they have everything that they need and then some. and yes i give everyone a care sheet, and i explain care. And as far fetched as it may seem, we do not sell anything that i do not already have personal experience with. i do know what im talking about with all of them. I just do my best to make sure they go to a good home. thats the best i can do.
