Cheers
Eric

2nd metasoma on A.liouvillei, has lesser granulation on the middle than on that of A.mauritanicus

Hi,
I seen that myself but wasn,t sure whether that warranted different species status.

Cheers

Yeah it isn't very visible on those photos but the color is the more obvious difference, brown for liouvillei, grey-dark for mauritanicus. Of course there are many other criteria (thiner hands, longer fingers, granulation, ect), wich are all described in the Vachon 1955 and Lourenço's revision of Androctonus.
Cheers,
Eric

Hi,

I didnt think colour would also be used as a way to distingush between the two.

It isn't really, but it can be used as an indicator, eg the black lip on H. spadix not the reason it is a different spec to H. arizonensis but its a helpful feature

Hi Eric,
Do you have a female for the male? I would like to see this species bred in captivity

Wow, great pics! I'm glad I didn't overlook your thread. Very nice looking scorpions. I've been eyeballing A.mauritanicus for a few months now. Great comparison pics.

Is this Text available as an online resource at all?
Only the Vachon is available online : http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/vachon.php (in French), here is the reference for the Lourenço's revision : Lourenço W. R., Nouvelles considérations taxonomiques sur les espèces du genre Androctonus Ehrenberg, 1828 et description de deux nouvelles espèces (Scorpiones, Buthidae), 03/2005. Revue Suisse de Zoologies 112 (1): 145-171
