Anadenobolus monilicornis housing, crowed or spaceous?

I have 15 bumblebee millipedes coming in soon. Do they do better crowded or fo they need lots of space? I currently have a 2.5 and a 5.5 to choose from.

Good news--I have over 20 bumblebees + babies, along with at least that many scarlets, in a 6-quart Rubbermaid tub, all doing just fine. You will be fine with either enclosure.

Awesome. I'm thinking I will go for the 2.5 gallon to start with. I'd imagine all that yummy substrate in a 5.5 gallon will be a big gnat draw until the colony grows. I know when I first started with a small group of Eublaberus serranus roaches I fought gnats for a long time. Now that the colony is huge I never see any.

Millipedes love neighbors, but you will have to replenish the substrate often and remove babies. Occasionally overcrowding can be an issue, but if there is enough leaf and wood to go around you should be fine.

Yes, space wise they'll do fine but it is amazing how quickly the substrate can be eaten. I would make sure to keep leaves on top where you can watch them and feed supplemental food a few times a week.

I have some nice spongey maple wood in the oven now to add to my coco fiber, dead leaves and a bit of sand. I should end up with 4 inches of substrate.

Yeah the 2.5 is the way to go. These are tiny dudes.

They are gorgeous! I love BBs. Looks like you have some fresh leaves in with them. They only eat decayed leaf litter. The fresh leaves could attract fungus gnats and whatnot as they decay. Just something to watch.
