i was reading a random fact list today and saw it said that if you put a drop of alchol on a scorpion, it will go crazy and sting itself to death. sounds a little crazy, is this true? there's no way i'm gonna test to see for myself, lol...

should of used the search function. No it's not true. Scorps can't commit suicide like that. There imune to their own venom. They might spasm from getting poision drench on them.

Yeah, that is a myth. Not true at all. They say the same thing about scorpions if they are caught in a fire with no way out (that they'll commit suicide by sting rather than burn, but that's not true either). Didn't know they were immune to their own venom though.

"ahh help is he molting" "my emp is acting weird" "how do you hold a scorpion" "how can I introduce my scorpion to another" "ahh mites" "ahh ants"...lol I'm sure theres more. Whenever I post a question now I always search it first.

In the similar thread from a year ago or whenever (someone posted it as a "fact," then got slammed, then admitted that he just read it and didn't know if it was true), someone mentioned using a q-tip dipped in vodka to clean something off his scorp. It twiched a little at the irritant but that was it.

They say the same thing about scorpions if they are caught in a fire with no way out.
I read somewhere that this one was based on the fact that they're cold-blooded, and the heat of a fire could make their metabolism go all wonky and they might spasm. Spasm to casual observer = stinging itself to death.

Explain the show Mythbusters then
You beat me to it! {D

I caught my first scorp, whom I slowly baked to death by accident, do the 'stinging itself' thing once. I had a heat lamp above it, and a pad beneath it, and it was jerking its tail up and down. I only saw it do it one, but I doubt that was the only time.

Along the lines of what I said, that was probably the excessive heat wonky-ifying its metabolism.

i like the word "wonky"

I heard of the duck's quack not echoing, but apparently it does.

But, yeah, the point of Mythbusters is just that -- mythBUSTING. :)

Only humans are so ....... to commit suicide. If animals could have an idea of the concept suicide and also use it, it would be a direct threat to the survival of that species.
