Is it because they are "pretty," having nice color. Is it because they tend to be more rare. It is because people like the "evil" behavior of some of these tarantulas. What exactly am I missing here?
Some are pretty, some are rare, whats wrong with love/hate relationships?

I love money but hate being broke.

Also, in reference to protectyanecks pictures .... the 9th one down is dancing and trying to hug at the same time. How cute.

Pretty and aggressive animals are appealing, it's the same reason most people would rather look at a tiger than a cow.

If you're referring the Psalmopoeus genus to be OW, then you're mistaken.
I was not.

They do lack urticating hairs but their location of origin places them as NW. On topic, as far as defensive behaviors go, there are plenty of NW species that are far more defensive than some OW species.
That's what I was talking about. Re read my post with that in mind and it'll make sense. I apologize for my lack of clarity.

B smithi/G rosea is actually extremely extremely boring and lifeless compared to many OWs in my experience (<-- at the risk of getting flamed). They don't do much more than stab
lol my b smithi teleports and has ripped my feeding tongs up and my new rose hair is very willing to bite rofl but i like the attitude without the medically significant consequences lol
