Aggravated over slow sling growth

My B. annitha is over two years old and about 1". At this rate it will be 8-10 years old before it reaches 4". Spending so much time with it definitely gives it sentimental value.

That's how I feel too. For some T's I've bought that are already bigger it's not the same as looking at a T that you've raised up from a small sling!

My B.albiceps and B.smithi are both in heavy premolt at 1/4 for the past 2 weeks Keeping them warm and feeding constantly isn't working as well as I had hoped it would.

My A anax went from 2"-4.5" adult female in 2 years... It never refused food. Very fast for the genus.

I've had decent luck with Brachy growth, with the notable exception of my B. albiceps. In 8+ months its grown from just under 1/2" to a whopping full 1/2". I think its a toys r us sling...."I don't wanna grow up"

You have to love aphonopelma hentzi slings they are realy slow growers. When they molt you can barely tell tell they even grew. These slings you will grow to appreciate more in time. they can become overwhelming at feeding time I find it easiest to break theme down into lots of 50 and feed on different days. I have found meal worms will mold almost over night so I remove remains the next day. I actually traded most of mine. So now I have about 26 left to raise at least till they get to about 3inch mark. I'll stop taking my B.albiceps to Toys R Us IMMEDIATELY and see if that makes a difference.

I've been putting off having the talk with him though, not sure how to go about it... "When a mommy tarantula and a daddy tarantula really love eachother the Daddy tarantula starts tap dancing desperately so mommy doesn't eat him" Ugh I've dreaded the day. Maybe I'll just let him google it.

I'm used to tropicals that molt often and grow significantly each time, and have tiny, shrunken abdomens afterwards because they've put everything into growth. In a harsh climate, T's can't afford to do that.

I sure like having slings that are able to take adult crickets at 5 or 6 months old (although sometimes that's male crickets with the rear legs pinched off). Even tropicals that have a large number of tiny slings (Acanthoscurria, Nhandu, etc) grow at a good pace. Their 'infant' stage is short.

My little Euathlus sp. red is still holding at 1/4". Been the same size since I got it back in April. It hasn't molted since I got it. I understand they're slow growers, but this is rediculous.

I had bad luck with G pulchripes they refuse to eat, live pinheads, cricket legs, chopped up dubia.
I got them to eat live baby dubia. both look fat now I'm raising temperatures hoping they molt.

I don't mind slow growers, its just bad when they refuse to eat. And fall way behind my king baboon in growth.

I got them to eat live baby dubia. both look fat now I'm raising temperatures hoping they molt.

I don't mind slow growers, its just bad when they refuse to eat. And fall way behind my king baboon in growth.

It is scared of fruit flies or anything else that moves, and so small that when I put a larger prekilled insect in with it the next day I can't tell if it dried up or if it ate some. Plus it's so small I have to keep on top of it's hydration requirements. I've almost lost this one twice from dehydration.

hah i have this same problem with my last avic[moderate slow groth imo].. and starting to have it with this one.. doesnt like prekilled cricket. mealies are a no-go [even micros] live food scares the bajeebers out of it.. i have to prekill a dubia nymph of apropriate or larger size and it will go suck him dry that night.. sometimes hides the body under the web so i cant get it -.- i think hes part serial killer XD

cannibalism? isos? ik id feel more comfortable taking on an iso then a leaping cricket or roach.. for the first few molts anywho XD but maybe mine wanted FFF i dont use those atm XD not enough slings to get a bang for my buck

some like the movement. which is why i use dubia. leg kicking against silk is a nice attraction for mine.. prekilled worms dont move as much imo and i dont use fff so N/a and a cricket thigh isnt exactly eye peasing to a vibration predator id immagine a fff is peasing but if it moves too much it may scare a T who will happily scavenge [some slings i had to pull 2 sets of legs off a roach to let them eat but within a molt they was a vicious predator lol]

lol buddy has Lasiodora striatipes who had a sack.. ofcourse seemingly a billion slings.. hes letting most cannabolize.. and at 1/2 in half are still eating the springtails and isos in their moms cage only like 10% have been eaten and was likely bad eggs -.- hes not happy hahaha

I have an A bicoloratum, it's 4 years old and its 2 1/2". I think most Aphos are like that - mine are.
