i have had a lot of people mention how much they like thrixopelma family. The feisty ones are pretty awesome arent they :)
As for my Thrixopelma family I probably own 3 of the rarest sp those being lagunas, cyaneolum and I have 2 cajamarca, unfortunately I don't own a feisty ockerti but I will 1 day.
I have a couple of old worlds that are no trouble but I love feisty New worlds my Dolichothele diamantinensis is by far the worst tarantula I have for threats it's been photographed with venom dripping from his fangs, it's bolted out of his enclosure right up under my armpit which was fun but yeah I love a bit of attitude

It's not you that's lost me my appetite lol
They have been heading that way with me for a while if I'm honest. There's certain items they sell that I couldn't find elsewhere but I've been able to locate another vendor that sells them.
An example of 1 reason for not doing as much shopping with tss is this last month they had Megaphobema mesomelas slings at £90 for a 4cm plus £8.99 for shipping total £98.99 yet another dealer I use had Megaphobema mesomelas slings @3.5cm for £69+4.99 shipping yet the shipping is done the same way with the same company so you see the issue
Yeah, but a lot of prices differ between suppliers, Tarantulasbristol has H.pulchripes at £69 which is £30 more than TSS lol.. I've bought all 15 of my T's from TSS, except my two H.sp bach ma, that i got from Stephan at Asian Theraphosids.

From the short time I've been in the hobby, I'm pretty sure TSS are the first ones to offer new stuff from Europe in the UK in most cases. Like they'll soon have Chilobrachys sp electric blue for sale, but i doubt anyone else will be offering them for a while yet (maybe they'll prove me wrong).

I know i could easily order them from Europe in the first place, but don't really want to wait 5 days for something to arrive from Poland - too impatient.

I like them because they're reliable and quick to reply to any queries you have.

Other suppliers take too long to turn it around for what I've read (I'm impatient), or don't update their website frequently enough, or have too many bad reviews with T's arriving dead.

As an actual question based on the two i got. Should i put as much ventilation as i would for an avic? Im assuming they prefer more ventilation than they do humidity, it stays humid around here a lot (as its the uk) i actually have a fan running at home simply to help with the humidity.

Yeah, same amount of holes will be fine.

Idk how you're keeping your Avics, but I don't wet the sub at all for mine - just a water bowl and drops of water on the web.

But for my T.gigas I do wet part of the sub as well.

Yeah i just have bottle caps for water with my avics. ill give a light spray of the sub once a week or so for mt t.gigas as well then, might even be longer than that, sub takes ages to dry where i am lol.

I wouldn't spray the cage fyi, it will scare them and then they take off. I do spray the lids though as a way to mark that I serviced the cage and they will drink water droplets alongside a water cap. You can get away with more husbandry wise with taps more than avics so you can experiment with sub drying times.

thats a very good point. i have a water dropper i usually use, so im sure i wont spook them to the point they bolt. Hopefully -fingers crossed- i can just drop a bit onto the substrate if it gets super dry, though here i doubt it would xD

@kooky You'll be fine. Do your reading and be mindful of your T's behavior and you shouldn't have any issues.
Im thinking of getting some T. gigas slings aswell , and the only arboreals ive ever had were psalmopoeus cambridgei slings. They are similar to psalmopoeus and easier than pokies from what ive read and just a step up from avic, but im no expert. Take it one day at a time and Im sure you'll grow to really love them.

yeah, i'm just trying to see how each t i have behaves and go from there. Im falling in love with NW arboreals though, and i think my collection of those will definitely outgrow my terrestrials in no time.

Haha, to be fair, if i ran a business i wouldn't give anything for free unless i knew the person.

I think the only people that usually give out freebies, are like general hobbyists.
In the UK? Not so in the USA :D

If only we had your cheap prices! Lee typically has a great selection at least least the past few years.

Agreed - I don't think I've ever ordered online and not gotten a freebie. The most valuable freebie was an IM E. truculentus, and the least valuable (and most common) was a B. vagans sling.

True true. I think the most valuable one I received was an A. minatrix followed up with an H. sp. Columbia Large (comparing that one to the price I paid for one many years ago). Though I have gotten great deals from dealers that were not freebies. Like a 4.5" female G. pulchra for 50$ and for the same price a 5" AF boehmei.

she got them from TSS (The Spider Shop) i guess ill put mine in 32oz deli cups then. I think id like to care for them, but you're very welcome if i cant handle it. Just so worried im gonna kill my slings with negligence xD. Only death i've had so far was a c.elegans that my bunny murdered, through my fault ofc.
You shouldn't have an issue, they're fast, some of, if not the fastest ts on the planet, but theyre not typically defensive, nor are they as delicate as avic slings. A 32oz deli cup is perfect for slings.

What the hell. I've literally made 3 orders over £120 (and making one next week for a similar amount) in the past 3 months and got nothing for free :D haha.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine. :punch:
Like viper said, must be cheap European thing...hehe. Freebies are almost a given in the American hobby. Even large dealers offer freebies, although many of them require a certain dollar amount to be spent.....but buying direct from breeders will always get you more and better freebies as those people are often happy to give back to other hobbyists.

I don't think I've ever not given anyone a freebie that I can recall...its one of those little pleasures I get as a seller adding the proverbial icing to the customer's cake.

Definitely one of the more under-rated genera....I wish we had the Thrixie selection you guys have in Europe.

My okerti are not any more defensive or problematic than any other t, they're just skittish, but their threat posture is a risen rump....its much more adorable than it is threatening....my cyaneolum did the same, so I am not sure if the others in the genus do this as well...but I always assumed they probably did.

@cold blood my T cyaneolum female does this but my T lagunas will straight up threat pose. My 2 Thrixopelma sp cajamarca do absolutely nothing no threat pose or flicking they are super chilled to the extent that they don't seem to care if I'm in their enclosures infact my adult female cajamarca behaves like my Euathlus sp red

Eh depends on the day, my pokies rarely give me trouble, the taps I'm more mindful of just because anything can send them off. There are days where I don't bother dealing with them due to being so riled up as I'm too lazy to play catch the neon orange spider. They aren't hard to work with but they demand respect as they can be rather sassy. Best way to read taps is to either keep them or own lycosids, as it takes time to know when it's okay to open the lid, all of the reading won't help if you don't have a real specimen.

Update: I thought i was ready for their speed but i wasn't prepared for this fast lol. I was sitting in the bathtub with everything i needed. I had their 32oz houses ready, minimally set up i regret, as i dont really want to open the lids now and have a fiddle putting in plants and such for the time being, but they have good 3 inches of sub and cork bark for the time being. Anyway, i opened the t.gigas vial, and very carefully placed the tissue into the new enclosure. The second i moved my hand away he was off the tissue and at the top of the cork bark. It made me jump slightly, but i got hte lid on before he escaped. Phew, not too bad.
Now time for the t.sanctiventi? Again, i did the same except he moved much sooner and MUCH faster. He was up and out the tub before i have even fully removed my hand. Thankfully, he actually ran around in the bathtub and straight into my catch cup. But it was so fast i basically blinked and it was gone. Good news though, both now housed and eaten. The t.sanctiventi has made its home at the base of some cork bark, with its feet sticking out the substrate. Glad i listened and added extra inches of sub. The t.gigas is kinda just wandering around trying to find its home i think. Again, regret not putting in extra decoration when i had the chance, but i wanted to get the out of the tiny vials they had been in for aggees :/.

Once they've made their home, you should be able to just tap on the container and they'll go hide. So you can add some foliage or whatever you want to add.
