Adult Female T Pricing

Hello! There's a local reptile store in my area that sells lots of Ts, including an adult female Chilean Rose Hair for $450. I spoke with an employee about her today, and they stated that she came from a hobbiest who couldn't care for his tarantulas anymore, and had given them to the store to sell. She's been there for many months and is the last one left from the previous owner. She's being sold with her tank and the old and mouse poop filled stand it's sitting on for the total price listed above. She has a sweet temperament and no issues. I asked her pricing without the tank and stand, and they said she'd be around $300, but is required to go with her tank. Is this pricing normal? I am fairly new to the hobby, and am in awe of how expensive she is, especially for a rose hair. Thoughts?

450 is not if the tank is garbage, but grammastolas are slow growing, so 300 for an AF isnt far out, at least for us prices.

Is it a legit G. rosea or a G. porteri? Is the top of her carapice a light rosy pink and the rest of the hair greyish, or is the hair all over a red tint?

I believe at the moment, G. porteri are a lot more common than a true G. rosea.

This is a G. porteri, that was sold to me as a "rose hair tarantula" when it was smaller than my thumbnail 6 1/2 years ago:

450 is madness. People would pay $300 but that’s a lot. They’re gonna have a tough time finding someone to pay that

I go to the shop weekly and have never seen her out so I can't answer on her appearance, but she is a G. rosea according to the signage.

I'm guessing that's why she's been there so long :/ When I asked about her pricing more, the employee answered that it was so high due to her being an adult female, which I understand, however, I don't know that price just seems so high in my eyes. May just be because of how new I am to T pricing as well 🤷🏻

I'd offer $350 for it all and if they say no then don't, or offer $375 at the most, especially being new and never even have seen it.. signage means nothing really. It could be labeled as G. rosea but really be a porteri. For a while there was discrepancy between the two.

Do u know how to tell the difference? Would like to see if mine is a rosea just for breeding purposes tbh, if theyre uncommon in the hobby id like to contribute to their survival.

The tank is small, dirty, and the top is a piece of plexiglass stuck on with bright yellow tape. She's lived in it her whole life according to them, so they won't sell her without it unfortunately. I wonder why the price is so high just for the tank alone too.

The description in the post you quoted. G. porteri are a more drab grayish color with a rosey colored carapice. Rosea are legit reddish hairs all over.

Interesting, I had no idea there was such a discrepancy! For now, I'm not willing to buy her, just something I have been very curious about for a while now. I'll definitely try to ask for a better peek or maybe a photo of her the next time I'm at the shop.

Yeah i found some pics online, stark difference in coloration. I used to think it was slight and to really tell them apart you had to examine them thoroughly. I just never felt like trying lol

She’s probably wild caught and the original owner probably paid $15 for her. I’d offer $150 and see what they say

My porteri sling was $9.99 captive bred at 1/2" cheap and good price for my first T. She's my OG. But ya, I wouldn't doubt they paid $15 for her lol.

OP, ya offer 150 and see what they say. If not it'll probably just sit there and they'll end up taking care of it longer than they want to.

Lately I've seen adult females going for between 300-450, online, at shows, and in shops.

I have seen slings sell for 140 each recently.
Those are true G. Roseas. G porteris dont go for that much. There was a juvie female on here for 200, and slings for 70.

Mb i thought you meant the going price is 140, not that that's a high you saw. I need to sleep lol.
