Ah, yes, I misread that.. There is a bright light on her rear that makes it difficult to see the colorations. But her body is REALLY looking like a metallica, color and all. A. Avics are generally a lot darker blue, nearly purple there. Unless it's your camera, it looks like a metallic blue. Is that how she looks to your eyes without camera distortion?

Here's a picture of a MF A. Metallica

And an A. Avic

for you to cross reference. Scott's Tarantulas is a pretty good site that offers a lot of easily found info and offers some good pics to compare. It also is pretty accurate on the lifespans too.

well i looked at thoes two pictures and from just that referance alone i would say metallica for sure. but only time willl tell i will try to get better pics in a week. i just want her to settle in for now! lol

Two other things. Quick pattern references, since she's what? 2.5"? Does she have any red/pink on her back? Most notably in a grid type fashion? Small squares/rectangles? Does she have hair sticking up on both sides of her rear with a smaller fuzzy patch in the center of a dark blue? Kinda like a reverse mohawk. Those are also really good identifying factors. Sadly, there are over 300(need to re-check that to be sure) sub-species of avics... they're pretty much all classified as a few major seen sub-species and the rest are generally called Avic Spp.

from what i can see she does have red hairs on the sides of her abdomen well atleast one side, and with the light of the room i can not make out any patterns. so what do ya think?

I would lean more towards a A. Braunshauseni then

http://www.scottstarantulas.com/0167.htm

They look much like A. Metallica while younger.. They are a bit faster and compared to the other Avics, they're a bit more temperamental. A beautiful species, and they get a few inches bigger than the other avics. I ended up getting one for a good deal as well, she is a absolute sweetie, though she hides a lot.

More pics

I'd keep an eye on those three species and watch for subtle changes. As for most pet stores, as I've found out.. you can't ever be certain. I bought a Avic Avic for $34 with a cage.. and knew it wasn't a standard Avic when I got her. Got a Peru Purple too for a cheap price because they didn't know what she was. Both of them were well in excess of 3". Though, i did buy what they sold as an H. Mac, and it ended up being a P. Lugardi.. however, he was ~$13 on a 20% off sale. He's nearly 4"

Here's a pic of my baby girl back home. I purchased her as an Avic Avic, and a guy I know back home has said A. Azuraklassi or A. Braunshauseni most likely. She's the one I got with a cage for $34. Beautiful coloring, she makes a web ONLY when she's moulting, and she moults suspended in a hammock made of web. Absolutely amazing to watch! Some have said Avic Sp. just referred as Avic Avic to make it simple.

yes looks verry simmilar to that. but i guess we will find out lol.

one more question for you guys. what do you all use to keep you cage closed? sense i used plexiglass to make a front for it. i was wondering how you keep it closed. mine does fit tight, i doubt a t could push it open but i would feel much better if i had something holding it shut. any reccomendations?

thanks
Brian

You're going to laugh when I say this.. but. Duct tape. lol. I duct tape a long strip of velcro to one side, and then hot glue the other potion to the side or top of the cage (Depending if I want it to open with a swing or a drop). I wrap the long peice of velcro with the duct tape to produe a king of trailing handle so I can pull the strips easily away from eachother and that's about it. I did that for three cages (two cages for slings and one for a Avic Encloseure). Other than that, I use a similar method you did.. I use aquariam glue to glue the back of a CD case to the bottom of the tipped cage.. then screw or aquarium glue one of those $5 mesh lids to it after it's cut in about 3/5ths.. and use the hasp that's on it to turn and lock it. If it doesn't fit perfectly, or I feel the T needs special attention and more protection (My Pokies).. I seal any small holes with plastic weather stripping for a tighter seal with some tension on it.

Well, pet shops sell clamps to hold the lids on tanks.

Or, if the cage isn't turned on its side, just put something that has any sort of weight to it on the lid. An avic isn't going to be able to lift it.
